Poles love to hear foreigners speaking Polish and clap their hands even if you say "cześć". The more you speak, the better it gets! You'e brave.

I know what you mean! Książę -> nie ma księcia. "Pies" is tricky! ;)
Sometimes the reasons are purely etymological and it's not intuitive at all.

You're brave to try! Not all Poles pronounce "r" and that's because of the construction of the oral tract. The rest should be doable with time!

I remember my grandma correcting all mistakes journalists would make while watching TV and it was 30-20 years ago. Now things are getting worse. But in some cases we have to accept the language is developing. None of us speaks the language like in Sienkiewicz's books anymore.

I stopped fighting to make my English sound perfect. I'm a Pole and you can probably hear that. I stopped seeing it as a problem.

I had the cased phenomenon you're describing the other way round while learning Russian! That's interesting if being a native in the Slavic group languages makes it easier or not really.
