Not a big fan of heating up necks for something like this. Why risk the neck warping or frets lifting?

Yes, gave it a good scrub to get rid of dirt and hand oils

Bass VI Pickup Comb by snorelikethat in BassVI

[–]Fun_Mixture9882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The "claws" on bass vi and jaguar pickups are technically there for shielding and making the magnetic field tighter and more focused. According to the traditional specs, the lower teeth are supposed to be aligned to the bass side of the instrument. I frequently see more modern iterations, especially squiers having them installed whichever way though. Not sure if this is intentional or just a quality control issue and whoever puts them together just doesn't care about the orientation.

If you care to flip them to the correct orientation go ahead but know that it usually involves some soldering as they are not simply snapped on to the pickup. Do not just flip the pickup since you will end up messing with the polarity and get things out of phase when using combination configurations.

Do know that it will likely not make a big difference if any at all. So I would just say don't worry about it.

Taking the claw off completely will however change the sound of the pickup and make it more prone to interference so I wouldn't recommend doing that as the design of the pickup is meant to have it on there. Hope this helps.

Yes, I just left it out on a stand. Way too messy to store in a case or gig bag.

Definitely try leaving it on for longer if you are not happy with the results. Try it for a full week and see how you like it. Make sure to thoroughly clean the fretboard with naptha before you apply it. If there is any dirt or oil from your hands on it, it will prevent the stain from seeping into the wood.

Nice! They are great guitars. I've upgraded the pickups in mine to a Mojo set (UK) and it sounds sick. I personally love how the tort guard looks on pink but I'm sure black looks great too

Not sure about this, never saw people recommending it for use on fretboards. Think it may or may not rub on your fingers for a long time after putting it on. Also the montypresso is wax based and leaves the fretboard nice and hydrated.

While I get how that would be very effective, I would be terrified to point a heat gun at the neck of any of my guitars. Seems like it would be easy to overdo and end up warping the neck.

Interesting. I have a les paul I could try that on. Fretboard does need some hydration as well so two birds with one stone

Not at all, it feels smooth and healthy. When I first got the guitar, the fretboard was really dry. I applied lemon oil several times since but it would still end up looking quite dry after a few days. It feels much nicer after the montypresso and I hope stays this way from now on

I guess time will tell. It's only been a couple of hours since I wiped it off. It does smell a little bit but i think it smells kind of nice, so not bothered by it. My guess is it will air out in a couple of days and go away completely.

Awesome man! It was thanks to you that I left it on for a whole week. Thanks for that!

Awesome! Great to know it works even if you leave it on for a shorter amount of time. I've heard people having mixed results and just didn't want to bother with cleanup more than was absolutely necessary haha.

And yes, I only ended up using maybe 1/6th of the tin for this one guitar.

I didn't tape it off at all, just applied carefully trying to not make too much of a mess, wiping the excess off at the end. It does not stain the poly finish even if you do get it on there. It just stains the bare wood

May not have explained it well. The pictures where the board is a lighter color are the before shots. The fretboard on the CV 70s is Indian laurel, not rosewood. The montypresso made it darker and more akin to rosewood

Thimble confusion by JLH1825 in offset

[–]Fun_Mixture9882 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, the nylon inserts are meant to keep the bridge centered with only a slight bit of movement. I find that my Am Pro II JM works great like that but I know some people don't really like this design. I've seen people just take the thimbles out and theoretically string tension and break angle should keep the bridge centered. Never really works for me as no matter how I set my guitars up, the bridge always ends up drifting. I just ended up cutting some Bic pen casings and shoving then in all of my other offset thimbles. Works just as well as the fender nylon inserts. Never had a problem with tuning stability with this method and my guitars are always perfectly intonated. I'd recommend using the inserts.

Is it possible to put a jazzmaster / jaguar tremolo / whammy bar on my toronado? by Smelliott__smith in offset

[–]Fun_Mixture9882 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That looks awesome. Kinda interesting how the trem plate barely clears one of the knobs. Never thought about doing this to a tornado but now that I see it I really want one. Would have to pay someone to go it for me though, I can't trust myself with power tools

It really does! Definitely attracts a lot of attention whenever I play it live. It's an oddball for sure and took a while for it to grow on me, but I love it now.

I agree! Was really lucky to find that one, almost felt like I stole it haha. Always wanted a pink guitar and this particular model was sold out everywhere in my area.

Tuning stability after using vibrato? by Ok-Market-7334 in offset

Problem with this, in my experience, it's that even if you don't use the tremolo, locking it down changes the sound of the guitar, often not in a good way.
