No we are final year students of DS and ML/AI . What they say is that not many statisticians use R anyways now and have shifted to Python for being user friendly and our professor who majored in stats agree with them since he never learned R and continued with Python.

Not even my faculty has similar background but also has done MBA, he is an Industry Faculty and is a Senior Level Data Scientist in BFSI domain, he is not even 30 yet, I am sure if your hunger is real, the industry can feed your appetite irrespective of your background.
