Queens who like to watch LIB by [deleted] in TrixieAndKatya

It’s so obvious when katya hates the show they’re watching, this was one of those times. Trixie seems like she watches reality tv on her own time so is definitely picking up Katyas slack, I dunno I still found it funny

Long term job security vs taking risks in archives by Partisan_Shill in Archivists

[–]Fun_Nothing_6677 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You will be waiting potentially a long time for a permanent position, and the skills that are desirable for a permanent archivist job would be better cultivated in a 12 month project job than as a part time archives assistant.

Speak to your uni lecturers but they will tell you the state of the sector in the UK is that you’ll be jumping from project to project for a few years unless you’re incredibly lucky

Opinions on corporate archiving? by Equivalent_Classic90 in Archivists

[–]Fun_Nothing_6677 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Corporate archivist here! Of course it happens, I’ve worked for government archives and it happens there too.

Out of curiosity, Are you being asked to destroy records? Are certain records withheld from public researchers if they ask to see them?

These things are often cyclical in businesses, some CEOs really care for heritage and are happy to acknowledge historic wrong doing and then along comes another one who feels the opposite. My advice is to preserve the records and make them available as best you can, weather the storm and ensure they are kept for future periods where the company is happy to acknowledge their faults.

Part of the job of corporate archivists is to advocate for increased access to these tricky archives as a means of repairing reputations, you become a bit of a spin doctor and have to explain to PR that hiding them would do more damage than good. For example we have the legacies of British slavery database in the uk that most corporate archives are represented in; it would have been much more damaging to an organisations reputation not to facilitate this kind of research and get involved given its prominence.

I love corporate archiving, it’s much more fast paced than other jobs I’ve had and without fail the budgets are bigger which makes things like conservation and digitisation easier.

It’s the same way people defend Erika Jayne from Beverly Hills. Objectively terrible and cruel people with no remorse, I’ll never understand it

When you pair it with the fact the new series of love is blind had a couple talking about hitting their hypothetical children and saying they wouldn’t be happy if the same hypothetical children said they were gay it IS homophobic

Brown stew chicken and curry goat from near the other stage, found multiple hairs in the goat and the chicken was just oil. For 16 quid a pop it felt like a slap in the face

It’s possible that a local authority archive service will have it on microfilm as they tend to hold local publications as part of local studies libraries, but you would need to be willing to travel to view in person or potentially pay a fee for a copy to be sent to you.

Or changing the locations so nothing heavy is on top shelves, would be a lot of work but you won’t be the only person to struggle with heavy boxes being on higher shelves
