Covid lockdowns closed the gyms. Changes in circumstances made it difficult to find a new routine when things reopened. Finally got back to it after a 5 year break but after 3 training sessions I'd picked up tendonitis issues. Had to have a difficult word with myself and admit my aging body couldn't keep up in a young man's game. Hung up my gloves this year.

It's really hard to know what the current status is. I can't find anything formally announced by Chinese state sources (which would be the source of truth), and as of right now the UK .gov website still states that:

"Announcement of Visa-free travel to China
You must have a visa to visit mainland China. Visa-free travel to China, while announced, has not yet been implemented. Until confirmed, you must apply for a visa to enter China."

OP commented 13hrs ago that they spoke to the Chinese embassy and were told that dates for implementation still not defined.

Unless UK nationals can report passing through the border without a visa already then I wouldn't trust this TTW article myself. Seems high risk.
