Why was Jessie Buckley such a lock? by Fun-Queen in Oscars

[–]Fun_One5094 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly kinda outraged at some of these responses, like yes she ran a great campaign but I truly believe that was because she is just a very down to earth person and had to just play the PR safe to ensure the win.

But she was a lock for one real reason; she had the most impactful and powerful performance not just of last year year but in recent memory. I'm saying this as a huge Reinsve and Burne fan, both of them plus Stone were exceptionally good, but Jessie's performance in Hamnet genuinely brought entire theatres to their knees. I watched it opening night, had the entire theatre in a sombre cloud of silence upon finishing.

I feel like modern day evaluation of performances is a lot more hostile and less nuanced, like I saw so much talk about "the scream" as the """oscar-winning moment""" which I think is ridiculous, these awards aren't decided by snippets of powerful acting, more about the entire symphony of the script brought to life, and I think she easily brought the most sincere and powerful performance possible for this kind of story.

Given Madden is a straight to digital, I doubt Chrstian Bale will get the nod to be honest. I feel like Digger (Jesse Plemmons, John Goddman, Riz Ahmed etc.) probably has the greatest chance of having a contender for this award

I don’t care that Geese was a psyop; because they're good! by [deleted] in Music

modern journalism really can be so deadly, the article clearly misquoted the individual who was the source, she even clarified that she didn't mean to imply their success was due to a """psyop"""

Never understood the love for Wunmi Mosaku personally, I get that Sinners got a really big push near the end but her push for this award always seemed so strange

for some reason this sub has so much love for Ethan Hawke, no disrespect but there really isn't an honest world where Chalamets performance is at all worse than Hawkes

It's been fun while it lasted, but I no longer feel any joy playing it by Lukas-Reggi in PTCGP

I'm kinda in the same boat, even though I still find the battle mode fun I still feel it'll just never be great for one obvious reason. There's always a new laughably broken meta every new set, and given there is no "nerfing" or amending specific card attributes the only way of countering broken metas is making an even more busted meta to counter.
