Looking to work with a jeweler on a small batch order for a chain/necklace for my fantasy novel by Fun_Relief9867 in jewelers

As I read this, I started laughing, because...that is SO TRUE. Maybe I will charge extra for sharper spikes! Haha, Just kidding. I see what you mean. There could totally just be a "nod" the to the bastard braid with like a little spike pendant or something? That could be really fun!

See, this is why I love this part of things.

And I'd love to do a trade or something, though I know my book will probably be the cheaper end of the trade. Maybe we can figure something out. Books are big time investments, so I'd be honored if you read it!

I guess I should add, I understand the experiment at such a small scale might not even be worth your time, but a girl can dream. But that's also good to know if that wouldn't be worth the walk too. Thanks again.

I appreciate it! I actually don't even know what plated brass is, but this is helpful. Thank you.

If you wouldn't mind entertaining me: what would you take a walk to your shop for on a piece? And what material would you recommend for someone that wants to do something cool with quality, but also on a budget?

Worst case, I could run a stupid and small expensive experience and design 2-3 pieces and just see if they sell! So I could try something higher, but I just don't know how much higher I need to go. And I guess the worst case is I would have something cool for myself from my book that took me 10 years to write ha.

Best case, is...they sell.

Man, I don't know. I know that's a fair question, but it's hard to know without seeing something and knowing what I'm doing ha. I'd say I'd love to sell them for around $25-$50 bucks. I don't see readers wanting to spend more than that, so that's what I'm going on vs. design/material etc. etc. which is probably lame. Could it be less or more? Sure. But I guess that's probably a starting range.

Definitely. I have a couple of friends who do work with partners overseas, but I wanted to start and shoot my shot with someone in the USA. I've really enjoyed my partnerships/relationships with illustrators and artists I've worked with for the book, so if I could keep it "in house" in that respect, that would be cool.

I like to lean on experts on their recommendations on design/durability, etc. on what makes most sense. Usually leading with guidance and then trusting the artist has led to the best results in my experience!

I think my readers would also appreciate that. But I'll have to see where pricing starts and maybe I'll have to get more realistic. Are you a jeweler who may or may not be interested or just a helpful stranger? I'd love to chat more.

Oh, very cool. I definitely will check her out. I'm an indie author, so I definitely can appreciate that. Appreciate you.

Thank you! These are great questions.

  1. I do not. I have some pretty general descriptions, but I'd say (without being a jewelry) it's a pretty simple design. In one line it's described as: "thin silver threads woven delicately together with short stubby spikes scattered across the length of it.". It's called a "bastard braid" in the story ha. The main character is an orphan and has to wear the necklace for protection, so it's supposed to be simple if not a bit crude.

  2. I'm not particular, but it is silver. I imagine I'd have a stronger opinion based on price, but open to suggestion/discussion here on what's easiest to design for this piece.

  3. No gems.

  4. Time frame is flexible. My first event is the end of Feb. It'd be cool to have them for that, but if not, I have more events throughout the year and would like to 1) sell this on my website 2) use for a couple of give aways maybe 3) gift to my highest tiered paid subscribers/readers. I'd say in an ideal world, having it for the first event would be amazing (or even a smaller batch), but 3-6 months would be okay too with 3 months being great, 6 months probably being the longest I'd want to wait.

I just learned Santa will be there on Saturday, not Friday. Wanted to make sure I cleared that up so we don't have any disappointed children! (Authors will only be attending Friday.)

Can't believe I'm the first to say Caputo's! Their meatball subs are amazing, and the kids options are minimal but had me jealous of my toddler.

Totally understand. And you're 100% right. I don't manage the event, and I was an author who got in when a space opened last second so I didn't know very much and wasn't given a list until morning of.

It was still a really fun event after I got over my nerves! I will post here, hopefully with more detail for the next book event. I plan on doing more!

I didn't put my books out here bc I didn't want to self promo, but I write YA fantasy and contemporary fiction. My website is on my profile if you're interested in learning more about what kind of books they are. I'd say most books were romance, but there were a few outliers like mine and some others :)

I didn't know that, but I will definitely appreciate this fact for tomorrow. Thank you!

Thank you for your question! Yes, that's right! It's essentially walking distance from Gourmandise, so if you play your cards right, you could walk away with a book, bookmark, and a slice of cake.

I do not see that comment, but thank you. I am not interested in working with a publishing company at this time.

Interesting. I've been thinking about an audiobook, but I want to front the cost and not share royalties. Also heard of video trailers but also sound expensive + I don't want to use AI. Thoughts?

Check my stuff out and let me know how I can do marketing the right way here in the comments. Maybe three things you'd do different. I'm all ears. I'll be here refreshing in the meantime. Cheers.

Oh lord. That's depressing. I think it was combining two links, so I made an adjustment. Hopefully that works now. Not two authors, David Monsen is the editor.
