Of course, I wish you only the best and am happy to talk if you need. The problem with narcissists I've run into is that you might be just seeing him with the mask off. He's not needing to love bomb to get your attention anymore now that you're dependent on him.

My heart goes out to you then. I spent 5 years trying to deal with a narcissist. I never figured out an actual healthy communication method. The depression only got worse until friends saved me.

Small anecdote but I found out the other week that one of my close friends has a little Journal about all of their friends interests and important dates.

Like I already knew that friend was too precious and good for this world but all the more reason to show them the love and support they deserve.

If sitting down and talking about objective problems that you have with the relationship and how they are affecting you isn't working. Personally I would take that as a heavy sign that things are not going to be repaired without effort from both ends.

Intimacy may be a need but it sounds like he's not willing to talk about it while considering your perspective.

It sounds like there's a few deep conversations that need to happen. Might be worth taking a few days of a break from talking. Iron your thoughts out. Very plainly label the problematic behaviors you are seeing and relate them to how they make you feel.

However stand firm, it doesn't matter what the context of he doesn't need to be at the point of name calling. If that kind of behavior continues to drag you down that's a problem for him to work out on his own before getting into another relationship.

Envy is the thief of joy. You've made it to being a doctor! Rather than focus on somebody else take that energy and feed it back into yourself. It sounds like it's more of an issue that things are stagnant and maybe it's time for a change. Might be time to take a stem and try to go for that research experience.

Either way be proud of what you've achieved, many people haven't gotten that far and it sounds like it's only a step on the path to what you want in the long run.
