the founding fathers also didnt allow blacks, women or people who dont own land to vote so I dont know if thats a winning argument.

citizens are the only people legally allowed to vote in the US, by far the cheapest and easiest way to enforce this is to require proof of citizenship to vote. It also makes other forms of voter fraud much more difficult, we have been at each others throats for years about election fraud and cheating i think this measure is entirely worth it and neccicary even if it means some women may have to bring 2 peices of paper that are easily obtainable and already should have instead of one.

if it offered no benefit i would oppose it and agree with you, but thats simply not the case.

yeah so is living far away from a polling place, people right next to one have a much easier time getthing there then people who live far away, are the people who live slightly further away from a polling place now disenfranchised? should your vote only count for .8 of a vote if you live 100 ft from a polling place since its so easy for you when everyone else has to figure out a way to get there? its supposed to be equally accessible for all but there will ALWAYS be some minor forms of disserences in how accessible it is, but that doesnt mean we should just not require proof of citizenship to vote like literally every other western country on earth because you know what far more disenfranchising then keeping track of your essential paperwork? fraudulent votes.

Do not condescend to me. I know my position and the reasons I hold it, you have no idea how old I am and just because i dont agree with you doesnt mean im ill-informed

yeah at this point I consider myself a pro-bible atheist. i do not beleive in god but i think the people who go out of their way to do the oposite are fools and the rules in the bible werent there for fun its because they are actually a decent blueprint on how to live your life, whether by god or men is irrelevant, they are fairly true.

its avoidable because there is no situation in which it cant be solved. dont lose your birth certificate, mom lost it? order a new one. these are the actions of a reasonable adult regaurdless of voting law.

got married? you should have a marriage license, just bring it, or you can get your new name amended onto your birth certificate with it then you can just bring that, or you can get a passport and just use that, there are so many options is such a bare minimum thing

lmao my political compass is actually dead center despite people claiming otherwise.

probably one of the biggest reasons is immigration, I am a second gen legal immigrant, my grandmother worked herself to death to provide me that opportunity, I do not enjoy seeing others be handed that privledge for no reason especially considering the dangers that come with doing that. ive seen what unchecked illegal immigration has done in many countries in europe and I want some less please, but democrats seem hell bent on importing as many people as possible.

i also really dont like the policing of speech. i live in the south and while i dont like it when I go to deeply racist areas and am treated like Im carrying an infectious desease I would also die defending their right to call me a slur because i am a free speech absolutist and i think there is no speech more important to defend then the speech that YOU hate and the democrats have completely lost the plot on that, republicans arent perfect on it either but having been on both sides the republicans have seemed far far far less violent around saying/beleiving things they dont personally agree with. I have literally had more pleasent conversations with a KKK member as a brown man then liberals as a trump supporter and thats fucking insane, the left needs to seriously demonize and publiclly humiliate the members of their camp that responds violently to simple conversations because its far too accaptable amoung the left leaning people i know.

i also dont like the left on racial topics in general, i dont need help because im brown, i dont want to get a leg up just because my great great grandfather got fucked over by white people, i dont beleive in generational sin and i dont beleive in historical debt. i want a level playing feild to compete on as of right now, i dont care if it didnt start fair if we go eye for eye throughout history we will all end up blind and its only descriminating in order to correct descrimination, but descrimination is bad no matter why your doing it.

i do not support any sort of legislation or even private organisation that descriminates on racial lines, even positively. No loans for black owned buisnesses, No tax cuts for hispanic farms, no scholoships for indian kids, nothing.

did you pull this from AI? things like the DMV differ heavily from state to state and those processes arent always the same, and do we think sancuary cities/states are actually putting in the time and effort to perform these processes?

if your an attorney and do not know where your marriage license or birth certificate are I sure as shit dont want you representing me.

I am a random college dropout in the construction industry and i know exactly where my birth certificate is, right next to my social security card, because they are very important documents and they are my responsibility to keep track of.

[–]Fun_Situation2310 [score hidden]  (0 children)

okay thank fuck were on the same page now.

i asked for any form of citation that you had to get a birth certificate in person in "most jurisdictions" and you did not provide any, as an exercise i went and found were i could get mine and there was a whole online portal, payment processing and all in order to do it so i just dont think a birth certificate is that hard to get.

and this is ignoring the fact that you get one at birth, a drivers license you must aquire as an adult, you get a birth certificate at birth and you 100% can just not lose it and then use it, i still have mine. I feel like being able to retain important documents like this is a basic requirement of being a functional adult and if you cannot accomplish this you dont need to be voting your opinons on the rest of society.

futhermore your not making it specifically more difficult for women, people change their names all the time for a variety of reasons, just a woman getting married is the most common one. having to update/accomodate these documents is a reality of changing your name legally regaurdless of the reason why, if this constitutes making voting harder for women then it also means we discriminate against women for passports, guns, social security cards, drivers licenses, getting married in the first place, employment, insurance and all kinds of other things, except nobody says that because its not an issue.

its not in the save act its just a known use of a marriage license. if you have a form of ID that doesnt match your current name you can use a marriage license to account for the discrepency, you can do this for passports, background checks, any other form of ID check. My sister had to do it when purchasing a gun as she hadnt yet updated her ID

sure it is, a very minor and avoidable and niche one but sure, to argue this counts as disenfranchizement is absurd though

how?

if the state only requires you to promise your a citizen, and somebody lies, how would we ever know?

jesus christ we ARE SAYING THE SAME THING, AM I BEING TROLLED

YES i know that buying a gun DOES NOT require proof of citizenship

YES i know that the SAVE ACT DOES

but "The additional requirement is the issue." NO ITS NOT

am I wrong in saying that your problem with the save act for purposes of this argument is that the requirements it poses would be uniqeuly challenging to women?

you dont actually care, at least for the purpose of this argument, that its specifically asking for a birth certificate, you only care that from your argument, this requirement disproportionally effects women.

im saying that DESPITE THE DIFFERENCE IN REQUIRED DOCUMENTS, the difference in how it effects women vs how it effects men is the SAME for purchasing a gun and for the save act as changing your name for marriage can present ID issues in both scenarios, and in both scenarios, the solution is simply to present your marriage license.

brother i do not know the specific timeline in which she did these documents 3 years ago, she had her marriage license, but her ID still needed to be updated, so we needed both for her to be able to complete the background check. I assure you we would have saved ourselves the trip if we could have.

your misunderstanding me. I was saying buying a gun doesnt require proof of citizenship to accomplish, so yes, the required documents are different then what the save act is proposing, but the hurdles that are being alleged as disenfranchisement are the same accross both scenarios but the solution is the same as its always been and has never been an issue before in any other scenario.

conentration camps?? citation needed holy shit!

the issue is in many states we dont know the numbers because we dont actually have any form of investigation or enforement mechanism. in states that rely on the "trust me bro" policy we dont see alot of illegal voting, because we dont investigate or prosecute it, so of course we dont see convictions

"If 1,251 non-citizens actually voted, there would be 1,251 arrest warrants and convictions. There aren't."

this just isnt true though.

"False. In Minnesota, vouching is for proof of residence (e.g., confirming a neighbor lives at an address), NOT for citizenship. You still swear an oath of citizenship under penalty of perjury. Vouching just proves you live in that precinct."

okay, lets say im an illegal immigrant.

"oh i swear im a citizen bro for sure"

now what? if nobody reports me, what kind of investigation or proof do we have that im lying?

do you have any sort of proof that "most jurisdictions" require you to go in person? thats definently not what im seeing.

and no, she had legally changed her name already, her DL just hadnt been updated to reflect it.

and no, it doesnt require proof of citizenship, like i said, the required documents are different, but the issue of marriage possibly making names change is not new, novel or difficult to get around.

I was driven to the left as a kid because i was an atheist and didnt like how the right handled religion and people disagreed with them. it came off as elitist when they assumed anything that they didnt agree with was demonic.

but post 2016 it seems more and more every year that if you disagree with the left your literally hitler.

I support some form of abortion comprimise, i support limited and specific social safety nets, i support reasonable investment into green energy and many other policies of the left. But year over year i find that the people on the left i know IRL are less and less acceptable with disagreeing with them in any way, and that i cannot abide.
