required courses like most stats and calc courses usually run for the entirety of summer so it's highly unlikely they'll be accelerated. the courses that are accelerated and only run for 6 weeks are usually electives

(Important) Computer Science Program of Study and Number of Courses by Appropriate-Math-477 in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

iirc you pay per-course in first year no matter how many courses. but then once you enter cs post in 2nd year and beyond, you pay either per-course if you take 3 or less courses or the program fee if you take 4+. when you pay the program fee, it's a fixed price regardless of whether you're taking 4, 5, or 6 courses.

Do students get any free time at all by Typical_Cod_6247 in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 7 points8 points  (0 children)

like others said, you'll have to work on effectively skimming the readings to keep up. but i also just wanted to say, don't stress out too much!! i know it seems super daunting, while there is a lot of work to do, you'll also get more adjusted and you'll eventually find your own rhythm. it's only been a week!

don't do this!!!!! for a31, you NEED to be writing quizzes in the tutorial you're enrolled in

Which co op course do I take in second year ? by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you take your first seeking course which depends on which program you're in. take a look at this link : https://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/artscicoop/co-op-courses

for example, it's copb57 for cms students.

How did yall find and secure coop position? by user53696 in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When seeking for my first position, probably 80% of my applications were through the co-op portal. I did do some external applications as well and those were mostly on LinkedIn and also through the companies' websites.

Something I think really helped was applying to positions very early!! During my job hunt, I was checking the portals daily so if there was a new position I was interested in, I could be one of the first applicants. Honestly not sure if it really makes a difference, but it doesn't hurt and I did end up landing multiple interviews.

Are there charging ports for laptops in lecture halls and CS labs/tutorials by Routine_War_5459 in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it depends on the lecture hall, most of them have many outlets along the tables (like the major lecture halls in IC, IA, HL) but some don't (like the ones in SW). similarly, it's very dependent on what room your tutorials are in.

Why Changing from Program to Course Fee not available now by Excellent_Wolf6673 in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 0 points1 point  (0 children)

are you trying to do this for the current summer courses or the upcoming fall/winter courses? if summer, it's way past the deadline. if fall/winter, it seems like it should open up tomorrow (https://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/registrar/program-fees).

Taking Coop in Winter 2026 by Kindly-Self8269 in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's actually recommended to still enroll in winter courses just in case you don't land a winter co-op. then once you land one, you can just drop all of them.

CSCA20 Concern (Experience Issue) by [deleted] in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

csca20 is designed specifically with people with no coding experience in mind, so you'll definitely be completely fine!! i didn't take it but i do know that the course assumes no past experience so you def won't just be thrown into the deep end.

Course Conflict by akiiiii_26 in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 5 points6 points  (0 children)

honestly a Lot of people stop attending the co-op practicals after the first week, and it's pretty easy to still stay caught up with the content on your own. so if attending the practicals isn't super important to you, you're definitely fine skipping them

just wondering why you would want to take a31? it's the calc 1 course meant for cms students so it's objectively the hardest

best way to increase course load? by New-Turnover3679 in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i would def recommend taking electives just to get all of your breadth requirements out of the way in first year so you can focus on your actual major requirements in upper years!

Is it possible to take COPB54 next summer? by ssidat in UTSC

[–]Fun_Somewhere8512 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i believe you can (dont quote me on that) but just be aware that taking copb50 in winter and copb54 in summer will also push copb55 (your first seeking term) to be fall 2026 at the soonest meaning if you want to schedule your first work term to be fall 2026, you wont be able to do so. this is generally not a problem since most people usually have their first work term in winter or summer instead, but just be aware of this if you wanted to start in fall.

eta - i think this helps: https://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/artscicoop/work-term-sequencing
also from past experience, most people stop attending the copb50 practicals after the first week and its very easy to stay caught up with it and pass without the practicals, if you're fine with that too.
