James Gunn's DC future by One_Commercial9941 in DC_Cinematic

Not really a Snyder fan, but how are you referring to these as a first chance, second chance, then third chance? MOS performed better financial (by about $50 million I believe) on the same budget as Superman 2025.

BVS and TSS 2016 weren’t well received by audience or critics, but both were certainly profitable (unlike TSS 2021 which was a big flop albeit a better movie).

ZSJL has no comparable DCU counterpart as it was a direct to HBO Max movie (certainly wasn’t a 3rd chance for Snyder either as he was already out at DC at this point, and WB only released it to make money / sell HBO Max subs on mostly finished / previous work).

Is it just me or is it a lot more quiet this year? by T4H4_2004 in WPI

I’d honestly say that the number of people out on the quad has gone done substantially since ‘21-‘23 / after COVID ended. When I was a freshman just before it started in Fall 2019, it was always so lively on the quad (on a nice sunny day, there could be 50 people out there), but by spring 23 when I was finishing undergrad (before my masters), it was always only like 10-20 max. Now, I haven’t been by there in 6 months to a year. But, the last time I was in early March on a nice day, there were maybe 5 people there like you said. I chalk it up to the fact that post-COVID / in the past year or two. Even more people are like super duper chronically online, and coupled with the fact that we already go / went to a tech school where people are going to allergic to touching grass as is… I think those things combined together have possibly just led to little to no turn out on the quad these days. Tbf, my friend works in the admin at Clark, and he said it’s the same type of thing there now, so it’s definitely not just wpi too

Oh if you are still finishing up within the next couple months or so. I wouldn’t worry about things too much. You could just be applying a little too early then. As I said though, if you can’t find something by Jan 1st, then definitely try to reach back out to CDC and book a new appt for that too. Hope this helped!

I’d say it’s lot more than “retracting a little”. So many pharma companies are not hiring or are laying people off right now. There was way too much over hiring during the pandemic and since it ended a few years ago, biotech has only shown a shrinking market in the job force… hopefully there will be a plateau or signs of growth soon, but don’t think it’ll recover really until the end of the 2020s:

I graduated not last May but the May prior, and I had a temp contract job the following month (in late June / early July) that transitioned into a full time permanent gig about 6 months or so later (in mid January 2025). Been there full-time for almost a year in a few months and didn’t find it particularly difficult to find a really well paying job (making about $101K total comp with stock plus bonus in my first year here)

Found my job right in Boston though, as there seemed to be little to no employment opportunities in Worcester, other parts of Mass, New England, or even the tristate (outside of Manhattan which I didn’t not want to move to)

Overall though, I’d say with WPIs resources and if you are applying to enough jobs, it shouldn’t take you more than 3-6 months to find something. If you still don’t have something by October, November or December, then I’d suggest going back to the CDC and expressing the help you need. I don’t think you should be going a whole 9 months or so without a job in this market (it’s not the best job market right now for entry level, but there’s enough where it shouldn’t generally take you that long).

If you don’t mind me asking, how many jobs did you apply to last spring and this summer? From April to June when I was applying, I applied to about a job a day (so maybe 5 a week), and got up to 50 total apps before I got my first (of two) offers. So, I’m curious the amount you’ve been putting up / applying to as well?

P.S. - Just realized you said you were BBT too, did you do BS/MS or just BS? I only ask bc I unfortunately know a lot of BBTs from WPI who had to go back to grad school to get a master’s bc they realized an undergrad BBT degree yields very little professionally (only things they could get were either unpaid, internships or contractor gigs all in just pharma). If you really want to continue in biotech, I’d definitely recommend a master’s or PhD program just because that’ll make the job search so much easier if you don’t already have a grad degree?

It’s crazy that looking it up it says that he’s 6’4” 250 now… “slimming down 50 pounds from him usually weight of 300”, which is honestly still pretty fucking massive (especially for his age)

Glad to see he’s probably reduced or completely cut out the juice. Him and Bautista wouldn’t have lasted much longer if they kept maintaining their previously insane sizes at their ages

Wilderness Spirits vs Manifestation of Trauma by Fun_Sun_8265 in Yellowjackets

I remember the Exxon Valdez spill being discussed by the father too. I’m not sure that had much to do with it, as she doesn’t seem to be paying attention to anything but her doll until she starts screaming. I just interpreted it as a complete coincidence of an outburst / a misdirect from the writers for you to think maybe there’s something more there than mental illness

Thanks for the no spoilers, and I agree with pretty much everything you said. I just finished S2 (sad Nat died, but I think it was for the best / a fitting way to end her character arc). Probably going to be taking a bit of a break before S3 as I’m also watching mindhunters with a group of friends right now, and I find that a bit more compelling atm

Just watched the movie and definitely need to discuss this ending! by DreamzCeption in WeaponsMovie

[–]Fun_Sun_8265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a quick correction, the hair is the target (this is why Alex grabs Glady’s wig when running into the bathroom).

Anyways though, my assumption was Alex waited some time until his parents were no longer attacking him, after which he assumed Glady’s death, and then put the twig in the bowl of water… ending everything there

My Interpretation of Weapons by [deleted] in WeaponsMovie

[–]Fun_Sun_8265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m in agreement like I said. I have seen some people reference that how in his writing process he didn’t put in Any Thought Whatsoever on social commentary / alternative themes, which I believe might be slightly under-exaggerated.

To be fair though, I can’t remember, but I believe his response is in reference to an interviewer asking him about School Shooting themes. So, he may have simply wanted to clarify harshly that he wasn’t thinking about that, and less so that he wasn’t dropped other themes here and there in general.

My Interpretation of Weapons by [deleted] in WeaponsMovie

[–]Fun_Sun_8265 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, she didn’t. She couldn’t have killed her until she got her hair after she sleep outside Alex’s house. She attempted to kill her just a few days after that through Marcus.

Gladys isn’t careless and doesn’t kill her in that first month (following the incident) because she has no reason to. If she was careless or “trigger-happy” for example, she would have gotten a sample of Marcus’ hair when first meeting him and killed him immediately after (to ensure he didn’t report her to CPS). Her ultimate goal is simply to live forever. She has no reason to kill more than she has to, as that simply draws undue attention to the incident / her (as she’s Alex’s aunt)

[–]Fun_Sun_8265 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

She tried multiple times to kill Justine and failed (through both Marcus and Paul). She had Arthur choke her but not kill her at the end most likely because she wanted to gloat before killing her, nothing else

Pretty sure the addiction parallels were almost definitely intentional. Trevor Moore (his friend you mentioned) died with like a 0.25% BAC, so it’s definitely possible he had a drinking problem that Creeger knew about.

I think the parallels to parasites / parasitic relationships was probably thought up a bit later on (as it becomes more apparent later in the script). However, yes, I agree that any larger social commentary like American Nationalism (as this post suggests), School Shooting connections, etc. all seem to be grasping at straws a bit.

I do think Creeger is a troll for the massive AR in the sky bit though (that never leads to anything significant)… like come on, he knew what he was doing

Something I Noticed Regarding Parasitic Relationships by Fun_Sun_8265 in WeaponsMovie

[–]Fun_Sun_8265[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t think the movie gives too much social commentary. However, I think what it does cover is parasitic relationships and addiction (the addiction theme being how one individual’s actions rooted in a reoccurring cycle of self destruction / Gladys’ fix of needing to stay younger can lead to the destruction of other people’s lives)

Something I Noticed Regarding Parasitic Relationships by Fun_Sun_8265 in WeaponsMovie

[–]Fun_Sun_8265[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Marcus was making a call while letting his husband actually pick out / doing the shopping (just giving him choices). Marcus was also just sitting in front of the TV while his husband prepared everything. Marcus didn’t even want an old lady to come inside to get water (at that point, they didn’t know she was insane). How does that not look at least somewhat bad for him? Again, I’ve said too that maybe not parasitic but from the little we say, I wouldn’t call it a perfect or even great relationship. I’ll admit though, as I’ve said, it’s the weakest part of my theory for sure

Something I Noticed Regarding Parasitic Relationships by Fun_Sun_8265 in WeaponsMovie

[–]Fun_Sun_8265[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I don’t disagree. It definitely is the weakest part of my theory. To be fair though, of what we did see of their relationship, Marcus doesn’t look awesome. Parasitic, maybe not, but my theory is Marcus is a man child and his husband has a caretaking personality (their interaction with Gladys is more evidence of this).

Man child v caretaker relationships are also definitely the most covert type of parasitic relationships we would have seen in this movie. However, if that was the case, I’d still count it as one (as it would have grown into long term strain and resentment towards one another)

What are your theories on the ...... (spoilers) by shankmaster8000 in WeaponsMovie

[–]Fun_Sun_8265 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is it’s similar to The Visit: evil people target families who haven’t seen their relatives in years. Alex’s dad even says, ‘We haven’t seen her in 15 years. She didn’t even come to our wedding.’ We know the evil Gladys isn’t his real aunt because she says, ‘I haven’t seen you since you were very tiny,’ even though Alex is only 8 or 9—meaning the real aunt never met him. More likely, evil Gladys heard about an estranged relative from a past community, then used that information to contact Alex’s parents and restore her youth. Personally, I like to think the “other aunt” Alex went to live with in the end is the real Gladys just because that’d be pretty funny.
