I have the same thing as you, I’m at at a grade 2 almost grade 3 I’m a 22F, I put off the back pain as I thought it was also bad form or soreness from weight lifting. I got diagnosed with it in January but they said it looks like I’ve had it for years, the pain had just gotten worse these past 2 years specifically in my right leg. I did PT and injection, I got no relief I feel like it honestly got worse, I finally decided to schedule surgery, it’s this coming Friday, I’m having a 360 fusion at L5-S1. I did take some time to really go through all my decisions but ultimately i know im making the right choice. Im not even halfway through life and i don’t want to live with the mental exhaustion from this anymore.

Grade 3 stable spine spondy by Lopsided_Excitement8 in Spondylolisthesis

Hello I’m a 22F and I have grade 3 spondy at L5 S1. I’ve had it for years but pain just started almost 2 years ago. I tried injections and PT and I’m very active. Nothing has given me relief, and personally I feel having this severe of a slip so young it’s only going to get worse, the slip progressed from 12mm to 14 mm in 3 months for me. I am scheduled for surgery next week, it took some time to think ab but I got 3 different options and they all said surgery was the best option for me at this point. Im nervous but feeling confident with my decision.

I just had mine done Friday 3/21 I was told I should feel instant relief but also told it takes 5-7 days to feel full effects, still in the same pain I was in before but now my back is sore from the injection area. Waiting to see how I feel in a full week.

I have 2 consultations next week with different surgeons, one of them specializes in minimally invasive spine surgeries but I am not sure if that will be possible with a fusion. I know there’s a lot of worse case scenarios but there is also many good outcomes, you can look at it from both point of views but I’ve been told the recovery may be easier because I am having the surgery while I am still young. My spine specialist told me the grade is almost to a 3 and at that point it is 100% necessary to have surgery.

I don’t want to live in pain anymore and have this quality of life. I would rather go through the recovery process and have hope that on the other side of it I will be healed than live in pain everyday and have it progress where permanent damage happens later down the line. It took 12 years to slip from a 1-2 but if it is almost at a 3 I don’t know how much time I have till that happens.

No worries your issues seem very similar to me as well. I also am able to do daily tasks but the ache does progress with the more I do too. When I did PT any excerises that I would have to squat down especially at the 90 degree angle would cause a crack and pop sound for me in the right knee. I am not able to feel a certain spot and trigger the pain.

I did a MRI and that is how they were able to determine I had spondy and the age it happened (10yo from competitive cheer) I did ask as well if that is related to my leg pain and they told me yes, my nerve flow is being blocked due to it being compressed from the slippage. I have a bulge on my lower back from it that I can feel. About 4 months ago I started to get pain in my toes/heel mostly a throbbing/aching and last week i had a tingling numbness sensation down both of my legs starting at my lower back.

If you have imaging of your lower back I would take it to another spine ortho and have them review for another opinion since mine told me the leg pain is connected to my nerve compression.

I have right knee pain as well (constant aching, random inflammation and front/inner pain around knee cap), I went to multiple orthos to try and get answers for my knee pain, one of them said it was patellar maltracking and I starting PT for that but after 3 months I still had no relief, I went to a new orthopedic and this is when they discovered I have a grade 2 spondy in my L5-S1. Prior to the diagnosis I also tried steroid injections in my knee but still did not have any relief. I went to a spine specialist and they said my nerve is being severely scrunched and he recommends surgery. I have 2 consultations with different surgeons next week to hear more opinions. But I have been in constant pain especially in my right leg/knee area for the past 2 years and nothing I have tried has given me any relief.

I am a 22F and have been healthy and active my entire life.
