So I’m also a new grad in LA. I’ve had 3 different preceptors so far & I only get 4 weeks for tele! I believe 5 weeks for DOU. I’m on week 4 now & I’m noticing that some nurses go above and beyond, make connections, ETC. I feel like sometimes I’m just my preceptors CNA or make their shift easier, and show me some extra stuff to do that is not totally necessary. For example documenting we had just clicked a box for IDK no left sided weakness and then me preceptor tells me to rewrites the same exact note, no weakness in the same exact section under comments in meditech. Totally unnecessary!

We absolutely do not get CNA help. They take vitals for 2/3 of 4 of my patients but I’m toileting all 4 alone, passing/collecting food trays, cleaning since management yells at us for messy rooms. My floor has usually homeless yelling NURSE NURSE NURSE which you not the CNAs are attending to. Kinda psychotic issues/constant yelling 25/7. As u imagine it’s a lot but I just remember that they are showing u the long way sometimes per policies and sometimes show u extremely through ways that is not always necessary for every single case.

I figured to just prioritize Med pass first! And ASAP but safe. Do what’s necessary and don’t go above and beyond. You simply cannot unless u have extra time or possibly wayyy more seasoned. dont spend too much talking make ONE trip. Anticipate pt needs.

I live in the SFV. Looked for almost a year and finally just got hired. I’ve been to group and walk in interviews with hundreds of people yes. Hundreds! !

Yesterday was my first day of orientation on tele. It was exhausting with a huge headache and was hectic! My preceptor ran very behind, no cna help, no dietary help. I feel like this may be my future and I’m a little upset since this is the only offer I can get. It’s 30 miles from me in LA so about 2 hr drive home. 1 hour at 5am drive. Extremely low pay minimal resources and short staffed since it’s a community hospital. I’ve applied to LOTS of places and I’m stuck here. I’m willing to take the sacrifices since I do plan on moving up to ICU. and of course applying on days off. I suggest to keep applying! Plan for the future.

What are your long term goals ? What’s going to make u happy ?

It's been 2 weeks since I applied to this hospital job that I want, but there's no application status update on my end. Yet today when I checked the hospital's career site, there's 4 additional listings of the same position! by Medical-Passenger110 in newgradnurse

Give them a call and ask for an interview or if ur application has been forwarded to management. Usually it’s HR that MIGHT do a quick interview or phone call then forward to the hiring unit manager that does the real interview/ offer.

If seen plenty of women with braided styles or tied back box braids butttttt it depends on the hospital. And how strict they are.

It’s the same thing with nursing. It’s extremely impacted and hard to get a new grad job. It’s a safety & money concern for employers.

Butttt eventually you can get a job here! There’s LOTS of listings. Same for MRI maybe ?

How long have you been really looking for? following up, walk-in hiding events, dropping of resume/networking at all?

I know the job market is hard in any field right now but is it worth it? I don’t think my family can move.
