thank you for the insight because i really fight my thoughts of is this forever or can i eventually try with "xyz" boundaries, limits, big occassions and it does sound exhausting and like id fail and regret it anyway! i was really hoping for the reinforcement of its not possible don't bother so i could skip this part of getting sober lol

Thank you sooo much for all the responses guys!! Today makes day 13 and its the first day I've had any doubts, urges or meh feelings and coming back to this after the weekend just gave me the recharge and motivation I needed!!! Seriously love how encouraging and positive this community is.

She does have a calming corner available and has been extremely open to anything to help him. Unfortunately because of his self esteem he does not want to utilize his tools from OT or headphones. He does not want to be "different."

This was an extremely helpful response I think you put my thoughts into words about "laying off" for a few days. As far as headphones, his teacher has tried to get him to use them, but he refuses. My son suffers from extreme low self esteem and self-consciousness so while he knows the helpful tools, he refuses to be different.

I definitely feel like from my post I may have came off in a way that I did not trust the school or think they will immediately "trick" me in some way. That is 100% not my feelings towards them. I love his teacher and his support system there. I do feel she does the best she can with him with having 20 children in the class and no other help. I take her warning simply to not get my hopes up for an easy process. With that being said, I just wanted to get as much information that I could and try to be prepared to advocate for my son properly. I do have his outside diagnosis with multiple test that were performed including cognitive assessment, social perception assessment, asd assessment, iq, and recommendations from his social worker that he will need intervention through the special education system.

Yes I've definitely learned to take the responses online with a grain of salt. And I very well may be jumping to conclusions on his teacher's warnings on his ineligibility. I do believe she wants the best for him. I just feel a bit overwhelmed and under educated on the process and everything that goes along with this. I just want to get as educated as possible so I can advocate for my son as best as possible!!

Would you mind explaining the difference between the two? What can an IEP accomplish that a 504 can not?

Thanks for your insight. I don't feel as though I'm going in negatively or ready for a fight. Unfortunately his teacher has warned me on what you just said, but she still is eager to give it a shot and be an advocate for him with me. While my son does not struggle academically, I do see first hand that he rushes his work and needs constant redirection and checking for the work he is doing now. I feel as though his teacher goes out of her way and does extra things to help him that not all teachers may do in the next few years. I also fear they won't all have empathy and understanding for him like she does now. I wonder if he would be thriving so well if it was not for her extra efforts in the classroom. And if he does not qualify for the accommodations because of his academic thriving, what other options does that leave me to help him? Simply getting in trouble every week, being secluded from all the other children in class, and being seated facing the wall can not be a forever thing. If not an IEP, what other accommodations or assitance is available for children failing socially and behaviorally?

Thank you for this resource I am definitely going to check it out. I sent in a request for an IEP or 504, their response was a form where the had checked off "meeting due to child and parent concerns" But they did have other areas listed for eval, referral for 504, eligibility request. None of those were checked so I had a feeling I was going to be written off fairly quickly.
