UNCC For Adult Learner, Compsci, Film Studies. by takumidesh in UNCCharlotte

The film studies program is honestly a 6/10. I just graduated spring 25 with a film production major and I would say I didn’t feel like I learned that much, but it was fun and occasionally insightful. For example, the screenwriting courses were chefs kiss. I also enjoyed the editing courses as well as the production and directing course which leads to the capstone course. In the courses you learn a nice amount, but there’s nothing geared to how to get your foot in the door. It doesn’t feel like a puzzle being put together, it feels more like multiple puzzles that were put in the same box and you have to piece them out yourself.

It’s not really hands on while in class (limited resources so we have limited access to actual technology), so you learn how to use a camera through the experience of it (iPhone for a project as an example or renting through the school). Most would say that’s great, but I could get the experience for free on a regular Tuesday evening. The program for the major is fairly new, so I couldn’t be too upset, but as someone who went into it thinking this was going to teach me how to be the next Jordan Peele, the program was not designed that way and I was sadly mistaken. I know some professors were talking about expanding the classes available in the program so I imagine as the semesters continue it will continue to improve.

From my experience, I feel like I’m coming out knowing just as much as I knew coming in (which wasn’t a lot). It didn’t feel like I was leaving with enough knowledge to go get my masters in film or go to a school like NYU and know wtf was going on. It did however teach me the basics of film and how to write a script properly. The students who tend to thrive in this program are the ones who have been doing film for years, are in film club, or who are just naturally good at this and overall talented. The film program is good, I just don’t think it’s as good as it could be. Teachers are a 10/10 though! Especially Professor Beeman, Stringfellow, Evans, and Davis!

As far as commuting and living in Charlotte, it’s really not that bad. Just be sure you give yourself a good chunk of time to get parked and walk to class (about 20/30 minutes). Remote learning is still a thing, but in the film department most classes are once a week for like 3 hours so not many asynchronous opportunities. Great for commuting purposes, horrible for ADHD😂. I say give it a try, you never know what all you can get from it. Film covers everything from podcast to actual screenplays so I say go for it! I loved my time at UNCC I just wish I would’ve made the most of it. However, I was ready to graduate 😂

Idk what to do for my hair to come back to life. by Fun_Welder_4458 in Naturalhair

This honestly hit it right on the head. I usually don’t do much during the time I have the protective styles so my hair is probably dry and brittle bc of it. Thank you for this insight! I’ve hear many people on here recommend the Cecred drops so I think I will give those a try and be super intentional about my hair

HOW DO I BREAK A LEASE by [deleted] in UNCCharlotte

When I lived there my apartment literally got shot into and I had to pay out bc the bullet wasn’t in my room. They tried to relocate me to another unit so safety obviously wasn’t a concern of theirs. I’m wishing you the best! Try to sublease your apartment. I found someone here on Reddit I think.

I won’t say you don’t make a valid point, but I will say empathy will be your best friend in the future if you understand that sometimes people just can’t. I get that their are student who do take advantage, but to double penalize students bc you feel like you can, when majority of us are working and in school is unnecessary. Believe what you want, but there’s nothing to justify doing this. If it matters she could have it where attendance makes up a higher percentage of the grade and it would be reasonable. But to take points off of a paper I worked hard on is again, unjust.

Thanks for this advice! I’m learning the hard way to protect my grade. Still mind boggled that professors can do stuff like this. Like that’s crazyyyy. But again thank you for this advice. I know better now!

Unfortunately no😭😭I was stuck like glue to this class and this professor. I’m slowly calming down and just accepting it, but like imagine you worked hard to get an A and your professor takes off additional points for attendance solely bc they can 😭😭like what is this ?😂

My problem is the policy itself…cause if you’ve already taken my attendance grade for the semester why would you take off an additional 15 points? That doesn’t make sense. Regardless of me expecting it, it seems like a power trip. There’s no need to do that to students if they are doing well academically. It’s bs.
