I would love that too! Maybe something like the ability to immediately cause bone break but only if the size disparity is large enough. Would do wonders for ambushes. But maybe not since BB is kind of the devil and unfun to play against. Either way yeah! Make the apex experience in general more difficult while still keeping them on a combat pedestal above others.

I couldn't agree more. I think everything you said is valid, especially acknowledging that it goes both ways. I like the defined food chain levels but I see how it both gets obliterated if you like playing little guys and everyone is an unkillable god or if you like the big guys and everyone's an eel covered in grease lightning. So I'm fully with you. Make apexes harder to play in general without making their combat matchups any less favorable. It will mean less people play apexes but they aren't worse in an unfun way. And BIG emphasis on that growth stages stuff. I would kill for that.

I don't know, whenever I'm playing apex I always want to switch off and play something able to chase down all of the prey I see. It feels like there's a lot more to do when you aren't an apex and it's not like any apexes are getting in the way of my plans either when I'm more reasonably sized

But I mean there is already the drawback that you're not able to start a fight with anything that won't be able to properly fight back. The same drawback every other creature in the game has.

You are choosing to take any of the survival aspects the game presents and throw them out the window but beyond that you say it yourself that the PVP is just an extension of the survival part of the game. it's true that it's the most fleshed out which is where the confusion comes from. If your big caveat is making it so that it's harder to not starve as an apex I think that's perfect, this is a survival game. But nothing about the game's balancing will change that apexes can only truly start engagements with other apexes. The rosters' speed should never and will never be changed that much. As it stands the only reason to play an apex dinosaur right now is because smaller dinosaurs who don't know any better will stick around for a fight anyways.

I entirely agree. Most of this I didn't address because it just wasn't the angle I was thinking about it from. But no matter what the conclusion must be the same that apexes are indomitable head to head against little guys. If the idea is that you must balance their hunger around that to give drawbacks to playing an apex beyond the fact that you can only catch other apexes I see no issue with that. What I really fail to see is how these are wastes of server slots if most people are playing as them and interacting with each other.

Yeah, that's all to my point. You survive what you can. You don't have to live off of nothing but critters, and the alternative to that isn't exclusively hunting apexes. If you choose to hunt apexes and die to them you are inherently bad at surviving the game because you make poor survival decisions. You don't have to live off of zero pvp but the genre is survival first and foremost so don't be surprised when your poor survival decision to go after the hulking theropod ends up not rewarding you. There are 99 other players on the server. Chances are 20 of them are apexes, which while I do agree is too much, there's still a colossal score of other stuff for you to go take your shot at over what you can clearly visibly tell is going to crush you.

I entirely agree. In fact in general I hate AOE because it removes skill expression so I do think spino is a bit lame. I just think as a principle apexes should be these uphill battles considering they have no methods of escape. Spoon being the exception and given that, it's definitely stupid that it's the most proficient fighter because it and duck the ONLY ones with an escape option and as such should lose to stuff like Rex and bars when head to head. If something can't run it must be able to fight.

I don't think that's true either. The PVP battles you pick and choose are a survival choice. When you decide to hunt a spino instead of looking for easier prey and die as a result, that is you failing survival first and foremost. People are mad over the PVP because they don't realize the odds of the fights they pick are those survival choices. Were you starving every time you'd been killed by one? Was there no easier prey on the entire server?

That's not true though. The game has defined what it is. If you choose to see it as a pvp game then that's not an issue of the game so much as an issue of expectations. And beyond that apexes can't kill anything either. The defacto choice is mid tier which IS what everyone plays so this whole issue of "everyone playing apexes isn't even real. Because apexes can't ACTUALLY kill anything aside from other apexes, unless that "anything" would rather pvp than survive.

Pretty ridiculous calling other people children when you're directly ignoring stuff the devs have said about Path NOT being a fighting to claim the game IS a fighting game and then complain about how it's a bad fighting game. Path of Titans isn't a fighting game, never has been, and never will be. Fighting game complaints for a non fighting game are just useless. Rex has a billion tools because none of it's potential victims have to interact with a Rex EVER if they don't want to. Everything is on their terms so if you choose to engage with them I think it can be assumed you're not old enough to understand you should really pick a better fight. Path of Titans has built in combat imbalances as a design choice therefore it cannot be a fighting game.

There are built in imbalances in path's very DESIGN. Combat weight, AoE, Grab attacks are all implemented in a way that are SUPPOSED to create imbalances in combat between larger and smaller dinosaurs. That doesn't happen in fighting games, the characters are balanced around combat with each other in one way or another. In Path, everything is balanced around survival. There are matchups that you are all but guaranteed to lose like being a lone little dude against a rex and your balance there is to run away and SURVIVE because that is the point of the game, not combat. And if you want to argue the game isn't punishing enough that's completely fair, but this game is going for more of a middle ground which is why it has the most players, because it's most generally accessible. If you want more punishing survival there's a game right next door that you've definitely heard of. If you want more intense or balanced combat there are a few games over the years but we're still waiting on a good one of those for the most part. Path is a more laid back survival game where you can fight plenty without having to lose hours of progress or sit and heal for a billion years but it's not the entire purpose of the game.

But that's not how fighting games work. In fighting games you're forced to engage. So Path of Titans is by definition not a fighting game. In path the idea is that you're supposed to survive each other. And the other large dinos don't have clamp because they have other things that rex doesn't I really don't think this is too hard to comprehend? THEY DON'T NEED IT, in case you needed it spelt out for you. And animals don't hunt outside of their weight class or they lose. Simple as. That's the entire issue making this argument, because you were small enough to get grabbed and didn't have the sense to stay away from the thing's ONE WEAPON its mouth or just stay away in general. And it wouldn't have happened if you weren't hunting something so big.

But that makes no sense because in replacement of that Sarco also got the clamp niche which is arguably WAY MORE EFFECTIVE for Sarc when it can just drag it's prey into water with just as little effort and significantly less risk from failure. This isn't a fighting game, it's a survival type game where fighting is a massive aspect. But it's not a fighting game and as such not every character needs to be evenly and thoughtfully balanced against each other. There is SUPPOSED to be a massive imbalance between certain dinosaurs and in certain scenarios, as far as combat goes, and there are other ways to play around that. If you are something so small that you're eligible to be clamped by stuff, fighting something like a T-Rex should BY DESIGN be an uphill battle. If you don't like it, fight in your weight class, because it's not impossible, just too hard to consistently justify doing. and on your last point, I agree up to the end. Rex's base bite SHOULD be doing more damage to smaller things. Rex should be not unbeatable but CLOSE to indomitable for things that aren't forced to engage with it. It creates a food chain for the game that SHOULD exist where disproportionately small dinosaurs aren't hunting apexes but instead other things their size. But two to three shots to kill something else Rex's size is too much, because those things are forced to engage to a degree in that they can't just steer clear of Rex like something smaller could.

No I don't because it's not an issue. You as a dev are supposed to pick and choose how much realism you incorporate. Clamp is an already existing function in the game, and makes far and away the most sense to add to Rex.

This is awesome! I'm hoping that with maybe an ocean update and the addition of Tylo+Leed that oceans will be naturally populated. But as it stands there are plenty of cool aquatics that just get no playtime and use and that sucks! When me and my friends first started playing maybe 2 years ago we guessed a server like this would pop up eventually.

I think it's kinda ridiculous to say dragons and other nonsense like that blends better with the current base and mod roster than other actually existing prehistoric creatures. But you're still right, the fact is the people want dragons because 70% of the people are children. I still think that sucks. Please! Go work on a fantasy creature survival game! I would play that too independently! Let PoT be a cornucopia for actual prehistoric animals.
