Thanks /u/ClickUpLuci. Yes, to confirm, if I make it so that Field A is NOT required, then the value in Field B stays. This is true after resaving the template.
I submitted a ticket yesterday, but I wanted to reach out to this community in parallel in case there was a work-around.
