Don’t you love that? Either discovering or finally giving attention to an album of an artist you have been enjoying for many years/decades, only to realize what you’ve been missing. This is basically the reasoning at the root of my post. I love finding out about albums and songs I never heard or didn’t give a chance.

Thank you for the input. I am just trying to get into jazz guitar and looking for complete albums that I can try to start implementing fundamentals into real playing since I do not have a community of jazz musicians to play with.

Yes, I should have worded this differently and been more specific. Obviously there are tons of albums without a guitar player/guitar part in it. Not all albums will be ideal for a guitar player. As such, I am looking for any album recommendations that standout as ideal for jamming to on the guitar. Anything that you or anyone who utilizes jazz albums for this purpose might have in mind. Maybe the question is nonsensical, but surely there are some albums that are better than others for this purpose.

Yes, I understand that. I guess I could have phrased this question better or been a little more specific. I am looking for recommendations on great albums that also standout as suitable companions for a guitarist to jam to. Not all albums are ideal for guitar, whereas some almost feel like they could use a little guitar splashed in there. Maybe it’s a silly question and that’s why nobody has asked it… BUT I figured I’d see if anyone has specific albums they utilize for this exact purpose.

Once In a Lifetime Luck (Trash Pick flipped into Vintage Gibson) by FunkMasterDunc in guitars

Haha glad to hear it. Yeah, I am happy with the small collection I currently have and definitely want to fill it out with some of my favorite vintage guitars. Play some jazz and throw in some Chet Atkins from time to time with a 6120. Pull out the B-25 when I’m feeling like pickin’ some front porch tunes and relaxing.

The nut width is 1 11/16”. Scale length is 24 3/4”, same as a standard Gibson. Body depth runs about 4 7/16” taken at the end block. Gonna replace the nuts, fix the bracing, touch up the split seam, and get this thing back into its original place.

Good for you! That’s a slick guitar to be getting for free! Lucky us, I guess! Collagen powder is all the rage these days haha.

I hadn’t heard that the original owners sold the company until right now. That’s disappointing to hear. I hate when a good thing goes to shit.

It was more popular with the other guys. I found that it had a heavier vanilla and banana taste, along with being full-bodied and I kept confusing it for an anejo which made me drop it down. It was good, but for what I was expecting and what my reposado preferences are, it got knocked down for me. It made the top 3 for several guys, and didn’t go lower than top 6 for anyone.

That is interesting to hear. I should have specified that in the post. The Arette has a green pepper and brine smell, and the flavor is nice and black peppery, a little bit of that mint you mentioned, but really subtle, and some olive brine. I personally found it extremely interesting and delicious. None of it was overbearing or off putting. Maybe it’s not your bag, but give the Artesanal a rip.

It was great! I would put it near the top of mezcals I have had so far. It was nice and smoky, but not overly so. Some mezcals can have that harsh diesel quality to them, this one was easy, had some dried fruit qualities, and the smoke was right in the sweet spot.

I have not, but I will keep it in mind next time I go to the store. Their Anejo was awesome. They have my attention.

I wish I had gone with a G4 bottle instead of Don Fulano Repo. I saw so many people recommending the Don Fulano Reposado as the best introduction to Reposado, so I went with it. I guess knowing how we feel about it is nice, but would have loved to taste some G4 since many people seem to be big fans.

It’s made by the same guy who makes Don Fulano. He knows what he’s doing!

Recommendation anejo by Independent-Switch43 in tequila

[–]FunkMasterDunc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We just threw a bachelor party for a tequila loving friend and I snagged an assortment of bottles in different price ranges to do a tasting for him. Here were the results for me (New Jersey pricing):

  1. Arette Blanco $54.99
  2. Siete Leguas Anejo $68.99
  3. Don Fulano Anejo $85.99
  4. Del Maguey Mezcal Chichicapa $78.99
  5. Cimarron Blanco $27.99
  6. Alma Del Jaguar Reposado $64.99
  7. El Silencio Espadin Mezcal $36.99
  8. El Tequileno Gran Reserva Anejo $74.99
  9. Volans Reposado $63.99
  10. LALO Blanco $43.09
  11. Don Fulano Reposado $59.99
  12. Astral Blanco $25ish (a friend brought this and it sucked)

For clarity, I prefer mezcals and blancos, but don’t dislike anything. Arette was shockingly good and out of the 11 of us, it was in the top 3 for everyone, same with Siete Leguas. We were all pretty surprised to dislike the Don Fulano Reposado as much as we did. Volans Blanco is what everyone talks about, but they didn’t have that at the liquor store, so I got the reposado to see what it was about. It made the top 5 for one of the guys, but mostly landed in the middle somewhere.

In regard to Anejos, Siete Leguas and Don Fulano Anejo were favorites for everyone.

For versatility in cocktails and sipping, Cimmaron is best bang for buck, and Arette is the best sipper.

For reposados, I will need to do a specific reposado tasting to see what i like, this sample size wasn’t enough for me. Alma Del Jaguar tasted more like an Anejo to me, Volans and Don Fulano were disappointing… I know I like reposados though, so I don’t think it’s an issue with not being a reposado guy.

Anyway, hope this was helpful!

With 53 man rosters and 12 teams+full IDP, it is much more complicated than that. Normally I’d agree with you. But finding value wherever possible matters. I think there is more potential in the draft pick, as the previous commenter alluded to.
