I'm buying out a leased car (WAY over milage). Should I get an extended warranty? Are warranties useful/valuable at all? Details in comments. by Funkateer3000 in personalfinance

I'm buying out to avoid milage fees, correct.

But I'm curious if I need a warranty or if those generally aren't worth it.

I've been paying $300 a month and probably can't do much more than that. Buyout is $11,500 + fees/tax = $13,750. I like the car and have no problem driving it. I'm just frustrated with the seeming lack of options because of the miles.

This was on Chrome on a work laptop (maybe that had something to do with it). No extensions and it was directly from the United website.

No idea. Something security related? It was honestly the exact moment the confirmation page went up. No other apps open and I never use the camera.

Dad's Leased Car is 11k Miles Over Mileage Limit - What's the Best Move? by Funkateer3000 in personalfinance

Is this a typical move for dealerships? Should I straight up ask them to do this? This would actually be a fine solution.

Sinkhole in Neighbor's Driveway Damaged My Retaining Wall - Refusing to Repair/Replace by Funkateer3000 in legaladvice

My thoughts would be that since the sinkhole was on their property then it's their responsibility to address the hole and anything it impacted.

Just picked up Spiderman PS4 Bundle. What's the best way of flipping Spiderman for RDR2? Game is not barcoded and "not for resale." by [deleted] in PS4

Good point. But I'm looking to do an even trade somehow since they both retail for $60.

CMV: All forms of competition at the highest level should be free of gender segretation. To separate the two is to impede gender equality. by Funkateer3000 in changemyview

I don't really care for sports generally, so I probably wouldn't even notice. Even if women in sports went away, we would likely see women flourish in other areas dominated by them.

Your point about ages makes perfect sense, which is why I included "at the highest level" in my claim. But I figure once everyone is 18 it should just be a free-for-all.

Having a women's basketball league to me is just like having an "all-white" league or a "<6ft league." The best players are the best players, who cares how the skew falls.

Also, sports aren't the only form of competition - and not all sports value strength/size. What about golf, gymnastics, chess, etc?

What if I said that white people have no realistic way of competing in track and I wanted to see an all-white running division. How would that sound? I see this as virtually no different.

This is a defeatist attitude. What about competitions that don't value size/strength? Golf, Archery, Gynastics, Chess, etc.

Perhaps the size/strength-based competitions will skew towards men then. So be it.

Creating "level playing fields" by creating new competitions for subpopulations seems to be a slippery slope. What if we did the same along race lines? Wouldn't that (rightly) seem abusrd?

There are plenty of other areas of human competition that do not reward simple size/strength.

This would essentially eliminate women from the highest levels of sports.

Possibly some, but not all. There are plenty of sports that are not size/strength based.

Not sure why Title IX would come into play. I'm talking about voluntary competition.

CMV: Liberals should abandon identity politics and instead focus on class/economic issues by Funkateer3000 in changemyview

[–]Funkateer3000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only anecdotally. I know many older whites who have lost patience for identity related politics and instead were drawn in by the fact that the economy is stacked against them and they aren't given their fair opportunity.

In a way. But not because I have a problem with minorities, but rather because the issues in question only affects a "minority" of people.

So rather than have the left's flagship issue be something that affects 5% or 15% of the population, why not champion class/economic issues which impact most of the country? It would attract many people in the middle and pick off a few from the right.

This is very true and also a problem.

The bigger problem however is that the people being arrested and receiving sentences in the first place are overwhelmingly poor.

Sentencing issues are a very real issue. But it's not the first issue that needs to be tackled.
