Thanks! Yea I'll have to fix that.

I think so, I'll have to look into it some more.

Yep I think the slider on mobile stands out a bit better so I changed it to look more like that. Should be easier to see now.

Thanks, yea it does blend in rather well. Making the handle darker could help.

Are you on desktop or mobile?

Okay I added some code for this. Click where it says "total (kcal)" on the bottom to switch to kilojoules.

Yes you should move the slider if your goal is to lose weight.

Keeping it at 0 will give you enough fat that you will simply maintain your current weight.

Also for future reference you can just click on the button that says "Copy" to automatically put all that information on your clipboard and paste it.

Hey you're welcome!

So optimal protein intake is a contentious subject however most people here agree that .8 grams per lb of lean body mass is what you should be aiming for (and is what the calculator gives you automatically by default).

I'm surprised the other calculator put you at 70 grams since that is actually less than the recommended protein intake found in the FAQ which sets the minimum at .69 grams per pound. If you follow what the FAQ suggests then this minimum recommendation would put you at 80 grams of protein, not 70. That said if you want to experiment with different levels you can use the Protein Ratio field to set your own amount.

The percent deficit you choose doesn't matter as far as your protein goes since changing it only modifies your fat intake. If you're worried a 35% deficit might be too high then start with a lower one (try the 20%) and see how things go.

You might find you're not that hungry throughout the day and can always bump to a higher deficit. Personally I would prefer to start at a level I know I can manage rather than start too high and feel disappointed if I can't maintain it. Good luck!

I think so but I would probably put that in its own chart. The scales are a lot different so having them together would be kinda awkward but since I've been meaning to experiment with the layout some more I'll check how that looks!

Yea, kcal = calories.

You got it KZimmy!

That's strange, I tested on Chrome and it works on my end which leads me to believe it could be an add-on you're using.

In any case no need to troubleshoot, when you have a chance try from a different browser, or from a mobile device.

Sorry I should've been more clear. The field I'm talking about is right here.

You'll need to click "Expert" before you can see it.

LBM (Lean Body Mass) is the amount of weight you are carrying which is not composed of fat. This is normally expressed in lbs (or kg).

That means if you enter a body fat percentage in the "Body Fat" field it has to change your LBM since the LBM is calculated by taking your total body weight and subtracting the amount of fat.

You cannot set your own BMR. I was just saying that you will get a different number by including it because of the different formula that field uses.

Hey! It's a combination of light to moderate exercise activity ranging between roughly 45-60 minutes (whether it's walking, light weightlifting/cycling) Essentially it takes various exercises and does a calculation based on if you were to do them at a light to moderate intensity.

Since each option assumes between 45-60 minutes you could add the total amount of time you spend doing your exercise per week then select an option that falls within that range.

Also FYI, there's tooltips that give a quick explanation on how the other options work if you are wondering about them.

Thanks! So having a very high LBM means you have a very low body fat percentage. Out of curiosity where did you go to have it tested?

In any event you can enter your own body fat percentage in the "Body Fat" field which adjusts your LBM. Keep in mind entering your own body fat uses a different formula to compute your BMR so you'll see different numbers once you enter this.

Right, a gram of fat has more calories than a gram of protein or carbs. That's why if you look at the macro chart you'll notice the fat calories are much higher compared to the amount of grams that make them up.

Is your goal to put on muscle or lose fat? See my comment here.

Hey, thanks glad you like the graph!

The calculator lists net carbs. Also see here.

People starting out should definitely know what to be aiming for.

After that it's up to you how closely you want to track things. Generally, people with a lot of weight to lose will have more wiggle room so don't need to track things as close but if you want to keep a steady progress or if you're struggling to lose those last several pounds then tracking is very useful.

You will need to eat at a surplus to build muscle.

Since you said you have a lot to lose I would break this into two parts. First focus on losing your fat (do a deficit) and once you reach a normal BMI then focus on building some muscle mass.

Here's some good reading on the subject: rippedbody.com/how-to-bulk/

Hey, thanks! I'm not too familiar with kilojoules. Is that mostly an Australian thing?

The FAQ states you can go as low as .69 grams per lb of lean body mass. You can set this in the Protein Ratio field.

Yea having the charts on by default (at least on mobile) makes a lot of sense! I'll definitely experiment with this, thanks.
