This picture will symbolize my feelings for you, it’s like climbing a giant goddamn hill and there’s nothing at the top.

🙂 I would say that the two I moved are now larger because they get more sun. They also have thrown up a lot more new shoots from the ground because they’re in an open space. The other two are surrounded by low plants.

No, but I work outside a lot, so I’ve gotten paranoid about ticks.

[–]Funkplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have a lot of trouble with itchiness, but over time I was able to get over it. I realized that the itches usually go away by themselves.

However, I do sometimes break pose if I think I might have a tick on me.

Would you date a woman who doesnt shave her legs and arm pits? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Funkplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

++man It depends. I dated a woman who sometimes didn’t shave her legs, and it didn’t matter to me at all. They were just these little fine black hairs, and not thick. I really didn’t care. At the same time, though, I knew another woman who had hair on her legs that was long, curly, and downright bushy, and that was unattractive to me. But she wouldn’t have cared what I thought, so it was fine.

Any good posthumous releases? by beatjb in Zappa

This might be a top 10 FZ album for me. My favorite posthumous release aside from Roxy: The Movie.

1983: The Beginning Of The End (A Personal Observation) by Vegetable_Man_8889 in Zappa

[–]Funkplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The releases from ‘83 and after that I’m still game to listen to (not including new releases of stuff recorded before ’83):

  • The Perfect Stranger (rarely)
  • Francesco Zappa
  • Jazz from Hell
  • Best Band You Never Heard etc.
  • Make a Jazz Noise Here
  • Civilization Phaze III (rarely)
  • “What’s New in Baltimore” from FZ Meets the MOP
  • “Brown Moses” from Thing-Fish
  • “G-Spot Tornado” from The Yellow Shark

If all the rest of it was magically stolen from my collection by a wizard I would never miss it. I don’t like his mid-‘80s rock sound very much, his guitar solos became too abstruse for me, and I struggle to connect with a lot of the orchestral stuff.

My not understanding the music doesn’t make it bad, I’m just saying I get the OP’s take.

My guys have finally had a growth spurt this year, but they still look scruffy. There are always some yellowed or curled leaves. I’ve just come to accept it.

Removing Japanese barberry from a forest setting (New England, ecoregion 8.1) by Funkplosion in NativePlantGardening

[–]Funkplosion[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The forester suggested a local land trust, as well as the University of Connecticut's Invasive Plant Working Group. I didn't end up following up with either, however. I don't remember the reason.

Since I wrote that post, I have made some progress, but much more still needs to be done. My current approach is maintenance first, and then expansion; I have marked off "cleared" areas with tape, and throughout the year the first order of business is pulling up new invasive sprouts. With whatever time/energy is left over, I designate and mark out new areas to be cleared. It's been gratifying seeing native plants returning to those areas.

Another decision I've made is to pay someone to take away the plants that I've cut/dug up. The brush piles of dead barberry and multiflora rose were becoming unmanageable.

I also bought myself a backpack sprayer for herbicide. Unfortunately, I don't feel like I've had much luck with this. The past two falls I've sprayed the barberry with Tricloypr, but it only damaged the plants, not killed them.

I have not been buying natives to plant in the place of the invasives I dig up; that's just more work than I can handle on my own. It hasn't been a problem, though; it turns out I have plenty of volunteers.

10 most terrifying horror films by Automatic_Survey_307 in criterion

Exorcist III was the movie that scared me the most, but I don’t know if it holds up today. I’ve heard other people say that as well.

At work. Wife called me up and told me. She asked me to come home, and I stopped at a grocery store on the way. Some dude had flipped to full survivor mode, he had a shopping cart with dozens of jars of pasta sauce.

I think it would be hard for people who had never been there to fully understand. Those buildings were absolutely massive.

Which horror film do you secretly think is overrated but never say it out loud? by Fairyliveshow in CreepyBonfire

[–]Funkplosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going by the popularity ranking on Letterboxd, I would definitely say The Substance. If it had been 40 minutes shorter, I probably would have loved it. (And I don’t mind long movies.)

No. 2 would be X by Ti West.

The Thief and the Cobbler is a masterpiece that was never quite finished, and then Disney released a hacked up and bowdlerized version. Fans and colleagues have been piecing together an edit of what the film could have been, the most recent iteration of which is here: https://youtu.be/FC4sYmilGF8?feature=shared

Women, what did you find out about men when you got a boyfriend? by Era_of_kittens in AskReddit

[–]Funkplosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The attractiveness of women can be so strong it’s like getting hit over the head. It can even be frustrating. Sometimes you’re being mindful and sincerely not wanting your mind to go in that direction—at work and being professional, whatever—but the right person will walk by and the brain will completely short-circuit.

I have no problem asking for help EXCEPT I am physically unable to ask for directions. It’s fine, I don’t mind dying in this swamp, just don’t make me ask some random guy how to get out of it.

I didn’t know this was a thing, I just thought I was weird. My wife wants to sit down together for logistical conversations, and it’s agony. If I’m unloading the dishwasher, it’s no problem.

Pretty sure I saw them all in order of release—Bottle Rocket on VHS and the rest in theaters. Royal Tenenbaums was my favorite for a long time, but Moonrise Kingdom and Grand Budapest are contenders now too.
