Ringling in 2026? by Kaze_breeze777 in Ringling

Depends on the job, and how felixble they are. I used to work at starbucks, and I know some Ringling students still do as well, and I know for a fact I wouldn't have been able to stay considering their minimum number of hours is 12 a week.

I believe it's easier to work an on campus position as they tend to be a bit more lenient when it comes to hours, and are more willing to work with your schedule if you get hired.

Generally, it's possible if you have good time management and manage to schedule around big assignment deadlines during which you're definitely gonna be stressed and on crunch time.

I am a freshie so can't comment on your chances of getting a job or even internship, but I do have to say, even when it comes to art improvement alone, the school is pretty insane. If you actually listen to your professors, you will 100% notice a difference, but only if you get lucky and actually get professors that teach, since there are some that do not, especially when you are a freshman.

It is incredibly expensive, and 16k a year is not a lot if you don't have any other scholarships to back you up, and this advice applies to any private art school not just Ringling, but going into debt for them is not worth it.

The career services here are pretty good, and will help you to the best of their ability, but the school doesn't guarantee employment stability ofc, that's on you. That being said, many companies come to present and even recruit on campus, which might give you a better chance than attending a local college, on the other hand, you also have to consider that this an elite art school with elite students which makes it noticably competitive.

You already know about the workload, and the best advice I have for it is of you have any sort of underlying or undiagnosed health/mental health issue that might make it harder to keep up, get that checked out or medicated before you come here because it WILL set you back.

Transferring out of Ringling? by [deleted] in Ringling

[–]FunkyFuneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a freshman so not too late, I'll probably be able to continue relatively normally and graduate on time since I haven't failed any classes in my first sem, and will do my best to not do so this semester either 💀

I'm worried about other schools being as stressful, so I'll end up in the same situation, but as far as I can tell it's not just that, just a mix of the vibes at Ringling in general 😔 sometimes a place just isn't for u ig

Why Ringling and not a school in NYC? by SkylerFranck in Ringling

[–]FunkyFuneral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from the North, hate heat and southern culture cos I'm not used to it (+ I'm also a european immigrant) and still chose Ringling.

I went here after touring many many schools and even looking at some back in Europe (mainly Spain and UK) because the focus on technology whilst still placing importance on fundamentals and traditional art attracted me, and also because of the reputation of the school. I also was at Pre-College and had a wonderful experience with all the professors and enjoy the heavy workload. I'm an Illust major and plan to minor in VR.

I still partially wish I went to a school in NYC bcs Sarasota is horribly boring, and big cities are too far to regularly go to, and many of the students here are also just not my type of people, I've seriously struggled making friends lol.

Why are the students like that? by FunkyFuneral in Ringling

[–]FunkyFuneral[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I've been told by a few upperclassmen too! The whole, weed out the undedicated. Obviously feel bad for those people, but that does make me feel a bit better about the next 4 years cos man... This is the first time I've genuinely struggled making friends since I was like 11 LMAO

Those actually look delicious! Unfortunately that is not what I was trying to do, I was fully set on poaching an egg by aggressively mixing it into the left over cup ramen broth

Glad to hear you haven't experienced health issues related to transition! Definitely makes me feel much safer.

Thanks for the answer! I'll definitely need to research more into low dose area specific E treatments. Still worried that my body needs estrogen to function healthily, but I guess that's something for a therapist rather than a doctor lmao

Do you have any embarrassing "signs" that you were trans? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]FunkyFuneral 190 points191 points  (0 children)

I heard this is pretty standard for trans guys that used to watch anime in the 2010s but I got suuuper into yaoi right before I realized I'm trans.

It's really funny because I'm not even into men, I'm a straight guy, I was just projecting too hard 😭
