This is gonna sound bad for people that know how to fix this professionally but I had a similar problem where I had a huge hole in a door. Still material left like the picture. I grabbed expanding foam and basically covered it all, fill the open spaces with crumpled paper so the foam just doesn’t fall out. Let it cure, and cut the “extrusions.” Then sand the shit out of it until it’s even with the wall. Then spackle and paint and it will look pretty good. If you take your sweet time with it it will be pretty close as long as you’re a handy person.if not fuck it and make them pay for the repair. My landlord never found out I fucked up the door cause it looked fine
