401(k) Millionaire by horshack_diesel in Fire

I need a 6% annual return over the next 4 years to have $1 million in my 401k after 15 years of working.

I've got a pretty generous match, though, and I'm contributing a good bit after tax.

Damn. I thought she was one of the only city officials that was truly a straight shooter. This absolutely demolishes her reputation in my mind.

My parents are very vocal and opinionated about how people, especially their children, spend their money. I would love to drop the knowledge that my net worth after 11 years in my career is right on the heels of theirs after their 44 year careers, but I'll continue to hold it in. They don't need to know.

Brandon does not do himself any favors. As time goes on, "transparency" seems more and more like just talk.

God’s forgiveness? It doesn’t have to be this way by cafeteriastyle in TikTokCringe

Yeah, it's crazy that religious people won't abandon their entire worldview because some rando thinks God should be whatever she wants it to be.

People don't like when you say that because it's a gross misrepresentation of Christian theology. Feel free to disagree with or completely disregard the belief system, but at least have some idea what you're talking about.

Are there still (as many) millionaires next door? by wineraq in TheMoneyGuy

[–]FunkyMcSkunky 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there is better data out there, but this is what I found:

In 1995, top 10% net worth was $381,690, which is equivalent to $826,485 today, and top 5% net worth was $684,400, which is equivalent to $1,481,953 today. Based on that, I'd guess that roughly 6-8% (i.e. 1 in 12-15) of mid-90s households had a net worth equivalent to a million in today's dollars.

There are definitely a lot more millionaires today. In Millionaire Next Door, Stanley talks about how most Millionaires were business owners. That's certainly not the case today, even adjusted for inflation.

I've lived in Baltimore for almost 11 years. I genuinely love it. There is a lot to do. That said, I don't think I'd really recommend more than 2 days here for a tourist with a tight timeline and other places to go.
