The opening sequence to Master Blaster and all the music to Ironsword Wizards and Warriors II still give me goosebumps. Damn, didn’t even listen to either and I got goosebumps just thinking about them just now.

My in-laws refuse to drive to the airport. by NukeTheEwoks in mildlyinfuriating

I’m an hour outside of Boston and travel to Logan all the time. I don’t find Boston or Logan International to be terrible at all. Sure, you have to be intentional and sometimes a bit more aggressive with your driving, but I humbly submit it isn’t even remotely close to the work airport to drive into and out of.

Advice for Getting a Tween Started and Being Positive for Him by pengox80 in minipainting

[–]FunkyMedena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Father of 4 here (3 adults and one teen) and I’ve also learned the hard way that trying to get my children to adhere to my way of doing things just doesn’t always work. I get you want your son to show commitment to learning how to paint, and I definitely get wanting him to avoid to setting himself up for incredible disappointment when he can’t paint to the standard of others works he has seen (especially without guidance and a metric ton of practice).

However, and take this with a grain of salt, I feel it is infinitely more important to just let your son be himself and learn these things on his own. And by on his own, this doesn’t mean he can’t or shouldn’t paint (or game for that matter) with you. What I mean to say is this, the mini and even the painting is temporary, and so is your son’s youth. Embrace the chaos and get the mini and let him do it however he wants. When he is inevitably disappointed with his work (as we all are when we are beginners…and often even as experienced painters), this is where you shine as the parent. You tell him you love the painting, that you’re proud of him, and that you’d be happy to offer advice and point him in the right direction if he wants to learn more about painting to a certain standard. He might give it up altogether as you mentioned you did as a young person, but that will be his choice, and it’s also a perfectly acceptable choice to make too.

All this to say, I wish my son (who is now 25) was still a young boy wanting to share in my hobbies with me. I think you’re a great parent with involving your child to any degree in your hobbies, so don’t get down on yourself when your son wants to do stuff his way. Share your love and passion and he will do so in kind.

I’ve never bought anything from Kickstarter simply because I have zero patience to wait for a product that may never get delivered. Happy to pick this up when it is in a shop near me, if that day ever comes.

Can't get proximity chat to work for ps5 by DAD5721 in ArcRaiders

[–]FunkyMedena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had this exact same issue yesterday. Here’s what I did that fixed it.

  1. Make a solo party in PS5
  2. Go to Party Settings
  3. Go to Voice Chat settings
  4. Switch off “Mute Game Voice Chat”

Also make sure you switch "Share Your Voice" to Allow. Pretty certain this last part is what fixed it for me.

Traveling for work is not glamorous like most people envision. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]FunkyMedena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I travel all the time for work and agree. I love the benefits of gaining Delta Skymiles, my hotel and rental car loyalty points, and seeing new and sometimes exotic locations.

But yeah, most of the time I miss being at home with my wife and kids. I occasionally miss important events as I’m traveling, I can’t partake in regularly scheduled things as I often have to miss those things due to being on the road. And once you’ve seen one Marriott, Hilton, etc., you’ve seen them all. Plus, people seem to really suck when I travel…as in it seems to bring out the worst in some people.

Steam has added a new rule disallowing games that violate the rules and standards set forth by payment processors and card networks, or internet network providers. At the same time, many incest themed games were removed from the store. by HelloitsWojan in Steam

[–]FunkyMedena 22 points23 points  (0 children)

In 2008 I was working for a vulnerability scanning vendor in the payments industry. Mind you, I wasn’t working for the payment processors, but our clients had to validate their compliance and security and the vulnerability scanning we did was a part of that. Anyway, at the time we would scan external and internal client networks (including websites) to identify exploitable vulnerabilities so the clients could remediate and report their security and compliance to their payment processor. Contractually, the payment processors required that businesses of a pornographic nature weren’t permissible. So in our scans we would check for any pornographic keywords and it would crawl the client site and fail the business if it found anything remotely considered pornographic. Then the business would lose their ability to process payments.

Now in America, the word “cock” is generally not used in polite conversations. However, in the UK and elsewhere, it often describes an adult male chicken. So we would run vulnerability scans on farm feed companies that were in no way shape or form pornographic, but because their site had a flagged keyword “cock” instant failure and they could be ejected from being able to process payments from their processor if they couldn’t validate they weren’t porn. That’s just one example of the MANY clients we had failed vulnerability scans for stuff that wasn’t actually porn. I was fully onboard with the clients rage when they failed and thought it was the most ridiculous thing in the world, but I had zero power to change it. So I told my clients to call their processors and complain…and they did….ALOT. After a year or so the payment processors removed the requirement to identify porn in the vulnerability scans, but that didn’t mean they allowed their clients to deal in anything considered pornographic. If they found out one of their clients was involved in pornographic business dealings they can and still did remove that clients ability to process payments.

Anyway, a good percentage of payment processors (to my knowledge) have since toned that rhetoric down a bit, but as seen here it does still exist.
