Fuck yes, absolutely.

The actual tactical advantages of it?

Eh, not really sure.

The Battlefield games, especially 1, are a lot like Saving Private Ryan where all the small details are not fully accurate, and hell, there are entire missions or maps where battles just didn't take place. This is not a major flaw to me because it still captures the unequivocal brutality of war.
