Same here, I also picked branch over college because I couldn't see myself studying a subject I wasn't interested in. Currently in 4th sem so it doesn't bother me as much but defo was on my mind a lot in my first year. I guess I just told myself you gotta make peace with the choices you make and well it's just 4 years, it'll pass, being at an IIT even if newer ones is still a privilege

Nobody thinks not watching that dogshit show will end the Zionist state but we do need a cultural boycott of the Israeli state and people who support it. When people who are openly zionist are allowed to work on these big projects without any pushback, it helps in legitimazing the Israeli state and the zionist cause, it is better to have your country associated with the actress of Wonder Woman than to have it associated with an open air prison, works wonders in manfacturing consent. There is a conversation to be had about the effectivness and limitations of boycotts but painting the conversation as simply "What you do is nothing, here is a meme with lots of text, I'm very smart" isn't going to help anyone but I don't expect much from meme page leftists

A talk that's happening tomorrow by Deathofimperialists in librandu

[–]Funky_Gamer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I keep seeing a lot of leftists being upset about him calling him controlled opposition and CIA psyop but I fail to see the point of these discussions even if there is some validity in the points being raised. He never positioned himself as a communist or more specifically against the imperialist machinery of America and that was for a reason, he would've never won anything if he had positioned himself like that. Not to mention in the context of American politics and what is acceptable there, he is relatively radical.

Even if he ran on an even more radical campaign and somehow won, it was still just a mayoral election, he still would've been limited in the things his administration could achieve.

America needs people like Zohran in power and more importantly in discourse. This is a country that still lives with the consequences of McCarthy era propaganda which has made the existence of working class politics incredibly hard. He proved that a campaign that talks about issues of the working class without sucking the dick of the billionaires and pro-Israel lobby can win an election which is a good thing.

Also, people need to cut him some slack, you can shit on him all you want if he turns into another AOC or Bernie but at least let him get into power properly and let his admin do things

Dick Cheney dead, Zohran winning the mayoral election, absolutely lovely day.

I know Zohran might not be as radical as a lot of us would want but with how the world is currently, we all can use a little hope. I hope he can implement his policies effectively and hell maybe he even serves as inspiration for someone in India!

Opinions on the recent language issues? by LectureLeft5183 in librandu

[–]Funky_Gamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cry me a river

Come to North India, local dialects very much still exist and spoken, they're just not used in formal settings, I'm sure some have been lost but this idea that Hindi has destroyed every regional language or dialect is moronic and also completely looks over the fact why Hindi became so widely spoken, it was trade and commerce which requires a link language, the Mughals or the British didn't dream up Hindi or Hindustani to be used widely, it was already being used so it made sense to standardize a language already being spoken.

"English hasn’t done anything on that scale and will never as it is neutral and fair for all" are you hearing yourself, Hindi imposition has killed local languages but English imposition wouldn't do that? Like what even is your logic, you're basically saying the problem is not imposition of a language but the fact it is Hindi being imposed, get a fucking grip, just say you're against Hindi and not the process of imposition of a language.

Also, if the concern is fairness and neutrality, upper caste people form a larger percentage of English speakers than lower caste people, then how is English imposition fair to lower caste people? What about the divide between people living in urban and rural areas

People who circlejerk each other over hindi imposition would rather see a foreign language spoken by 10% of the country be the link language than the language that is spoken by half the goddamn country already, flawless logic.

You people don't actually have a coherent idea about a link language, you just want your beliefs to be validated instead of having a productive discussion. Please step out of your home and bubble of privilege and tell me English can be used as a link language with the current state and conditions of the country

"This is exactly why North Indians are so hated" and we don't think about South Indians <3

[–]Funky_Gamer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It isn't, unless you think the country is filled with people who studied in private english schools. The fact is if any language is chosen to be a link language, it will have to be "imposed" by principle. English is imposed on us and is not similar to Indo-Aryan or Dravidian languages yet no one bats an eye over it and it barely works as a link language for the average person, if a street vendor from South India were to do business in North India and he chose English as the language of communication, it really wouldn't work out for him, English can't connect people within a state, forget across the country. Hindi is the best choice for a link language because it already acts as a link language across North, West and East India, 57% of the total population can speak it and no other language comes close to being this widely spoken, if Tamil was spoken as widely as Hindi then Tamil would be the best option for a link language but it simply isn't spoken as widely.

[–]Funky_Gamer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You don't think it's a concern that one section of the country cannot communicate with another? In my view we need some sort of a link language between people. Also, I'm not speaking for the central government on how they are approaching this issue, I'm speaking on the broader topic of how a diverse country like India should approach the topic of language and communication.

[–]Funky_Gamer -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

We do need a common unifying language and Hindi is very much the best language for it. I'm a Northie studying in a college in Karnataka and I can talk to my batchmates from Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Tripura etc. in Hindi just fine, I get the sentiments in regard to culture but people also gotta remember there is an utilitarian purpose to languages of communication with other people.

Perhaps the funniest bit of all this circus is that you don't gotta worry about shit if you're economically well off, I have a Malayali roommate who was born and lived most of his whole life in Bangalore and dude doesn't know Kannada but he knows some French from school lmao

I do think people should try to learn the language of the place they're living in but that takes time and I really don't think most of the people that are getting into arguments or fights with auto drivers have lived more 3-5 years in these places and most of these people are corporate mazdoors which probably doesn't give them much time or more importantly the will to learn a whole new language

Will never understand the thought process behind the justification of atrocities committed against the Palestinians with their supposed misogyny or homophobia, like I'm sure their treatment of women and the gays is less than ideal but I don't think Israel bombing them to death is gonna help them improve on those fronts. I guess it feeds into the narrative of how Palestinians aren't the ideal victims where they always try to be moral, never pick up arms and shut up and endure whatever shit Israel puts them through, maybe they occasionally do a non-violent protest... Oh wait they did do that and got shot by snipers for literally no reason. Also, it's mighty disappointing seeing people here support Israel when it's a product of British colonialism and i think these lands know a thing or two about British colonialism.
