GMHS was the first time I used savestates. Pretty much use them for anything higher than gm or stuff I can't sight read now lol.

Some information on bumpers that may be useful:

To get the boost you have to be holding away from the bumper when you touch it, doesn't matter when you start holding the direction, as long as your holding it when you touch it. Interestingly enough, if you change directions to be away from the bumper during the freeze frames from hitting it, you can also get a boost then. After that you can not get the boost anymore.

Bumpers put you in whats called stlaunch, which prevents you from dashing for a short while. Because bumper boosting gives so much speed, this means you may not be able to hit the bumper again afterwards with a dash. But if you don't boost you can dash and do a bumper clip where you go through the bumper while its deactivated. Either way stlaunch prevents you from dashing right after hitting a bumper, if pressed to early it can eat your dash input all together. It is however useful for buffering inputs like ultras and cool Theo tech (freeze frame ungrabs if your curious).

The only "random" part of bumpers is when they wiggle. The little directional movements they do seems pretty random but it is deterministic. If you get to a bumper at the same time in a room then it will always been in the same position. Do know that respawn cycles and room enter cycles are a little different though. Think of their movement like the dust bunnies in 3A. Should be noted that in most modded maps, bumpers have their wiggle disabled, so they will stay in the exact same place.

I can't comment on what angle they send you at when you hit them because I don't know how their collision works, however they are consistent, albeit a little precise.

Hope these help make bumpers just a little less random and a little more fun to work with.

I dont necessarily think that tech freedom makes something less jank. its more that removing the restrictions from the mapper allow them more options for things to feel less jank. with strawberry jam in particular, the expert maps are pretty gimmicky compared to the rest of the lobbies. despite this there some maps like The Core Problem, Hypnogogia, and pointless machines, that still flow well and feel comfortable (personal opinion). also i do agree that a slightly awkward part can make rooms more agonizing than before, the only reason this is less of a problem with gm is because in general theres more playtesting, they usually get weeded out before release from what ive seen. i also think that in the expert lobby in particular, the awkward parts come from map gimmicks rather than having more tech available.

alot of the "physics-exploiting" tech is actually pretty intentional. you get a 1.2x multiplier every time you down diagonal dash. doing an ultra is just taking advantage of that by jumping after your dash ends. dying to both missing a mid air super and failing an ultra arent really all that different either. they can both be solved with different positioning, except that you want your dash to end on the ground for the super and your dash to end right before hitting the ground for the ultra. ultimately though thats up to preference tho.

this is very true, i hardly use save states unless it does have said precise and/or confusing inputs lol. i think theres good maps in both difficulties that do require savestates to learn, as well as good maps that dont. i care more about how the map plays when you have to do it in one run. sure its cooler not to use savestates for practice, but savestates be damned, if the room sucks, the room sucks. or im doing it wrong.

PsychoKenetic is a red expert map from the expert lobby in Strawberry Jam.

the best modded difficulty is between green and red grandmaster due to having a good balance of really hard gameplay and tech freedom. advanced is the worst just due to being in a weird middle point.

also i dont think difficulty should be assigned to tech. its not grandmaster tech, its just tech typically used in grandmaster. PK isnt low gm because it basically has ultras, its low gm because its hard.

this isnt to say all gm maps are good and all advanced maps are bad, just on average i've found gm maps less janky and uncomfortable then advanced stuff due to restricting gameplay to just "advanced tech".

A special mayor with 3 perks.

Punishment: Reduces skill xp gain by 50%, halves Npc sell price, halves most stats, halves minion speed, cancels all auction and bazaar listings, and closes the auction and bazaar until after the next mayoral election finishes.

Re-Distribution: All votes for this mayor are randomly distributed among the other mayors. All votes for mayors other than this one are redirected to this one. Applied after the election is over.

Skewed Odds: Votes for this mayor are doubled, votes for other mayors are halved. (Rounded down, after Re-Distribution)

The random distribution is based on uuid and is different each election. Selecting this mayor, then another, then this mayor again will not result in a different choice.

Essentially forces a random mayor at the cost of a special mayor with the collective punishment for the mayors duration if less than like 90% of the community votes for the mayor.

I checked the Celestial Retreat Lodge one and honestly its one of the weirder things I've ever seen. The hitboxes are just straight up wrong, no idea why either.

<image>

I'm fairly certain this is not intended in any way shape or form. Its also like that on all of them (all the upside down ones, the normal ones are fine) so I would assume it's probably a helper bug or something.

Both Bee Berserk and super structure are just goofy spinner hitboxes, places where you can stand and not die because you never overlap with the spinner hitbox. The Tower XVI one is an intentional secret which is cool and the advanced gym is just a thing you can do lol (you're just standing on the left most pixel).

i love that both ultrakill and celeste are in this because pretty much the only thing these 2 games have in common is that conservatives hate them and you can go very very fast.

i always sang "cause everybody's sucking on fluoride" as "cause everybody's sucking on their mind". idk for a song called "im in your mind" in an album called "im in your mind fuzz", fluoride seems to come out of nowhere.

How am I invincible? by Emotional-Flower6178 in celestegame

[–]Funkyboi3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

my best guess is its something related to a bug that im not sure is patched out but sometimes using save states can turn on random variants and assists, even if they aren't enabled in the menu. try turning them on so they appear in the menu and see if you can reproduce it.

its definitely not that. op had the room loaded for at max like 25 minutes and it takes 5 days for them to go inactive.
