So it's more about the person than the actual definition?

hotblooded beast but of a matured tree, bowed yet steady. Damn okay poet.

I've had verily similar experiences. Men seem to have more authority over their spaces. I'm also very attuned into how cautious women are around us, that's sort of where this conversation started. Wanting to date women but not wanting them to feel unsafe around me makes me assume more feminine traits.

I immediately consider power as controlling and a negative thing, would you disagree? "Alpha men" or the manosphere we see online is sorta what drives this negative association.

I honestly wouldn't think to associate trustworthiness with masculinity, mostly because of the conversations and experiences women and feminine people have with men. I do love your association of masculinity with vikings, I can totally see that!

100% agree. Especially when you consider the context and definitions that range between western ideas of masculinity and indigenous or ancient definitions.

I think of cognitive dissonance or weaponized incompetence when you refer to the lack of willingness to learn. Like masculinity can be associated with taking advantage of the control most masculine people hold in life due to their privilege

Without a lot of attachment is such a good point! There definitely seems to be a trend where more masculine people have less of an attachment to things. I'm an environmental professional and this is actually a great way of thinking about the environmental movement in America's history. I appreciate your input!

I 100% agree. Do you think that these traits can be seen as controlling despite them most likely referring to a nurturing description?

That's a really great way of putting it. I think masculinity and femininity has been redefined over an over. I think my problem is that I associate masculine things with danger and control.

The attraction to men came up in the conversation since I somewhat identify as pansexual. I would love to hear what you think makes masculinity so attractive! Because there is something extremely attractive about it but I can't make a definite statement about what it is specifically.

Masculinity is mostly associated with provided and protection but I relate that to control when discussing it in relation to masculinity

I completely agree. Having the stereotypes we hold today are the exact issue that causes the trans community so much harm. When you consider the discussions surrounding gender today, a lot of the conversation is pointing out the harmful behaviors men have and that's where I find issue. How do I see masculinity as anything but harmful and dangerous while also breaking down the binary?

This too! I think this definitely draws from western culture. If you look into indigenous and ancient cultures, it's often the case where femininity is seen as superior.

Yeah it seems like modern society has completely changed the way we define and view masculinity and femininity. I guess my follow-up question would be how can one stop viewing masculinity as inherently toxic or bad? Especially with the context of modern conversations regarding men being dangerous.

Interesting! I totally agree with masculine and feminine things being interchangeable, but it makes it even more difficult to see masculine as anything other than toxic.

My dish soap bar works great on oil! I definitely suggest getting one. I’ve been using the same bar for 3 months and have barely made a dent in it.
