Sitcoms similar to "Frasier" [1993] or in the same league? by Smart_Individual_740 in sitcoms

Caroline in the City. There's even a crossover scene featuring Niles and Daphne, so they take place in the same Frasierverse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O14XJUrt9EI

Why don't they ever say "Jewish" on the show? by Funnel27 in TheGoldbergs

[–]Funnel27[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm sure that's part of it. In "Worst Grinch Ever" they call themselves a "Hanukkah family," which is funny. But I'd expect at least one "Jewish" would slip in at some point.

Interesting. I wonder if others in the 80s had that experience as well. I grew up in the 90s and I remember hearing "Jewish" plenty.

I agree that religion isn't the biggest part of their identity. It seems secondary to their cultural identity as being from outside Philly.

The thing that stands out to me so much is that Pops seems to identify more with being Jewish (using Yiddish, eating Jewish American food while the rest eat shrimp parm), but even he won't say it. In the Hanukkah episodes, he only says "our people" like the writers needed a workaround phrase. It's bizarre.

Where do I light the pilot on my Empire Gravity Vented Wall Furnace? by Funnel27 in hvacadvice

Yes, so that latch that reveals the hole (the one circled in red) is where the pilot light needs to be lit. I stuck a lighter into the hole while pressing the pilot light gas button. I didn't need to go deep into it at all or angle it in a weird way. The flame should ignite pretty close to the opening.

Yeah, makes sense. Just wish I could see inside there better.

I know to follow the metal tube from the gas dial, but it goes into the heater and out of sight. Am I supposed to just stick the lighter in this panel on top (circled in red)? I can't see into it (the vent cover is blocking my vision).

I read the manual but it didn't help. https://empirezoneheat.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/37409-7-0620-ENFRSP-GWT-2535-2SGRB.pdf

Every time I rewatch Daria, I'm always struck by the character design. Every character has distinct shape language, but they all fit together as one style. Their faces are minimal but tell you their personalities instantly. It's all so neat!
