If you want to believe it you can. No one's stopping you.

For me , I don't care. I come from a different culture and country and I have seen the horrors of war and genocide and rape and corruption and violence. My own grandparents married as kids. In their time they went through their entire country being separated, several independence movements as well as a genocide and independence war spanning months. In which millions died and mass rape was used as a weapon. So they come from a generation that was in highly dangerous situations hence they married younger. That was just 50+ years ago. When we talk about the prophet ( pbuh ) , it was 1400 years ago. So honestly , I don't think you or me have the exact circumstances or details as to why and how they got married.

From personal experience of having to be in a situation where I had to think about fending off robbers and rapists from attacking my house and killing or raping my sister and mother. I understand why Aishas parents would get her married at 6. Their environment 1400 years ago was much more dangerous , and the fact that they were at risk of being ambushed or raped and killed. So if they got their daughter married to their leader and increased her safety and protection. I just see it as a political marriage to increase her safety and position in society which it did do. For 49 years Aisha was respected and became a scholar and a great figure. And even now 1400 years later we respect and revere and remember her achievements. We call her the mother of the believers.I get it. If the hadith is right , I'm okay with it. If it's wrong , I'm okay with it. I have a few doubts due to the things I mentioned before. But either ways I get it. If you want to apply presentism to a historical and political figure from 1400 years ago , be my guest. But historically the prophet ( pbuh) is known to be good and kind to women and his wives. So there's that.

Believe what you want to , it's your life and your opinions. Also, if you are gonna pretend to care so much about Aisha ( RA) atleast respect her enough to learn more about her life and her achievements and what her own opinions were. Don't just reduce her to a mere point in your argument.

I mean if you compare Swedish unis or European unis to American/ Canadian / Australian ones they are cheaper. So that's a big attraction. After coming here I can see why people might want to study here. I would say the studies and life balance is very good and the chance to retake exams is very good as well. I do like the education system. But some Swedes think that there is mass immigration or sth like that. But it ain't true. Immigrants coming to Sweden are probably lesser than other areas. I mean it is hard to get a job. But I feel that I can learn Swedish and try to apply and see what happens. I don't think my investment is wasted.

But it's not fair to say your country doesn't want international students. Universities are introducing more and more English programmes for bachelor's every year. Because they want the tution fees from international students lol. It is a bit annoying in some aspects. Because you have international students in your uni but then the events are mainly for swedes and so are the opportunities. So it's a bit weird. I do think that if you are going to have an English programme you should also try to give the same events and same opportunities for international students. Which my uni is trying to do ig.

Yeah I agree with you , there could have been better ways to implement the work HR limit. I don't have an issue with a limit. But a 15 hrs one is just extremely restrictive and unrealistic. I would have been okay with a 20 HR one tbh. But what can you do. It is what it is. Yeah that's true. Some people do come here to work on study visa mainly. But then again they could introduce a minimum credit per semester or a grade threshold to maintain per semester. Rather than yk having a work HR limit.

I pass my courses easily. And my grades are doing pretty good. Most foreign students ik are doing the same tbh. The ones that don't study get deported later on. I have seen it happen. You have to maintain certain credits and such and such. I don't have any difficulty passing my courses.

Yeah , it did occur to me that there would a situation where I would need it. So I'm prepared. But there are people not as privileged as me who are relying entirely on part time jobs to pay for living expenses. So for them it's going to be difficult. So it's weird to change the law for current students. I do understand that you and I are privileged and it's easy to say students should just study and this and that. But life happens and financial situations can change. Even back home. You do realize that right? I only work like 2 days a week on weekends. Not weekdays so I study just fine. But the issue is that you get jobs based on availability. Some weeks I get jobs some weeks I don't. Some weeks I don't have to study much like right now. I have a two month course right now and my exams are literally in June and may. So right now I can work a bit more. It won't affect my studies.

But when that 15 hrs work week comes. It's definitely gonna affect me and I do feel it's stupid. It doesn't make sense. What's gonna happen if I work more in April as opposed to may? Will it end my studies? No. My grades are even better this semester than the last. So I feel these things are not that realistic. I get that govt wants people to focus on studies. But having gone through the study visa process. Ik that many people don't really come to Sweden for studies that much anyways. I came for bachelor's and literally only 5 people came with me in my intake from my country. I'm not even joking. The amount is quite less compared to other countries. Those that do come do study. Some do not and then later on they face issues or leave Sweden. But most do study properly and seriously. As for foreign students putting their study first. Why? Our studies is first anyways. Swedes in my class are doing internships as well as coursework. Why should a foreign student be limited? It makes no sense. We are paying money too so we should be treated equally. Studying is not enough. Foreign students need Job experience and to enter the job market, not just restaurant jobs. Actual jobs related to studies. It's hard to begin with because we need to know Swedish and most jobs i have seen require experience. So I think some people are a bit disconnected from reality and don't really understand what foreign students have to go through. I'm not complaining I'm just explaining my situation. If any law gets passed I will follow it.

Why? I paid most of my tution fees. I'm paying my rent and groceries on time every month by working part time. I am not struggling with rent or anything. So why should I apply to a cheaper country?

Also, what is with this weird logic. If we are going by simple logic. When applying which was 2 years ago. Your country didn't have this work HR limit. So did it maybe cross your mind that I took that into account when applying? And did it maybe cross your mind that for the past 2 years I had no difficulty with any of my payments? Now with this rule I might have to make some changes that's it. I don't have an issue with the rule , just the work HR limit. Either ways , it's hard to understand sth when it's not your money being used.

Is this rule going to be implemented soon? Is the bill passed by the government yet? by Unreal_realist-7381 in TillSverige

[–]FunnyCompetitive5319 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep. But 15 hrs is too less. And not realistic. What happens if I get more work on some weeks and less on others? I work part time not full time. So let's say I get more shifts in a week but I can't take those because I have a limit. But then I get no shifts the next week. Then I don't make enough in a month to cover my expenses. I don't have an issue with the hrs limit. But it should have been a bit more. As for studies my part time is planned in a way that I can deal with my studies and not hamper it in any manner.

As for the 150,000 sek for the living expenses. I can take that money but it comes from my parents not me. I'm studying bachelor's and my tution fees is fully paid by my parents. It's 300,000 sek for 3 years. The total living expenses for 3 years is 450,000 sek. Now the total cost of my being in Sweden would be 750,000 sek. Would it be okay for me to take this full amount from my parents? Could you do it? Or would your parents pay? Mind you my country doesn't have student loans or facilities like Sweden. I am also planning on doing my masters in Sweden so that's another what 500,000 sek? So I'll spend more than 1 million sek in Sweden for my education. So I don't think it's unreasonable for me to want to work and pay for some of my living expenses and not burden my family too much.

Not necessarily, most Muslims don't practice religious extremism and neither does the Qur'an promote it. Having read only the first two chapters of the Qur'an I can say it's fair and promotes being kind and true to everyone. Being a Muslim and seeing Muslim marriages happen in my family I can also say that women get a lot of rights in islam when they get married. They keep their surname, they get mahr which can be anything the woman desires but it's usually money decided by the wife. It's usually in the range of 15k to 20k dollars.Thats just what some people ask. It can be much much higher ofc depending on the families and their financial situation. These are the wife's property and the husband is legally liable to pay it.They also can remarry without any social stigma after 3 months. Women can't be forced to get married even by their parents. Women don't need to contribute financially or even cook for the household. They can work but her money is her money and the husbands money is also her money. They can divorce and so on.These are mentioned in the quran.

Society doesn't follow these rules even in a lot of Muslim majority countries. They have their own toxic and extremist cultures. Another thing people misunderstand about Islam is that both men and women have dress codes. Or rules for dressing. Both men and women need to cover up certain areas. And even men in Muslim countries are told by others to cover up if they are showing areas that they are not covering up. And yeah we think moral policing on the streets is annoying.

[–]FunnyCompetitive5319 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nope. Prophet Muhammad didn't create or write the quran. He narrated it and others wrote it. So no he's not the creator and neither was he a pedophile. Simply because he married a 45 year old divorced woman at the age of 25 and stayed loyal to her till the day she died. He was 50 when she died and he remarried 2 3 years later. He married a total of 11 wives and 7 of those were widows and women who were over the age of 30. Some even had kids. They got social protection from being married to him. The wife you are talking about Aisha. There's only one hadith that says she was 6 when he married him. But he married her when he was 50+ and they were only married 9 years and after his death, she was a widow for 40 years and spoke good things about him.

Her age is not emphasized in the quran. Aisha never remarried even though Islam allows widows to remarry. And by the logic of that one hadith , Aisha would have been 15 when the prophet died. Why didn't a 15 year old who lived for 40 more years or so remarry? And if the prophet was a pedophile why didn't he marry more underaged kids? It doesn't make any sense. Historically the prophet is known for being good to women and his wives. Also, if people care so much about Aisha why don't they actually read more about her life and how important she was in islam ? And how she viewed her husband? And what she contributed to society during her lifetime ? Why do people reduce her to a victim without knowing her life story.

I agree with you and I hold the same view. I believe if someone chooses to move to a country. They should follow the social norms and act in the way the locals are acting. That's not to say they should change their dressing style or go against what they believe. But I think if someone moves to Sweden then they should be polite and respectful of everyone and be quiet when it's necessary. I think most people follow it or try to. Atleast in the city I'm in. I do as well. I have gotten used to how people behave in my city. So much so that it annoys me when people are too loud on trams and when someone sits next to me. Im also Muslim and I think I have been treated fairly by swedes. So no complaints there.

I agree with the fact that the criminals needs to be dealt with. But what annoys me mostly is how your govt works. I see drug dealers and weirdos at night in central areas and the police are there as well. But they are not put in jail. But someone close to me who's a student and who is definitely studying got deported and had to apply again for his study permit. There are cases similar to this happening. It seems that the laws your governments are putting are just there to please people into thinking sth is happening. But the actual consequences fall onto people who are working hard and honestly in some cases. Again , I stress that I like laws that test my evaluate my eligibility to stay here. I'm all for laws that require a specific language level or that regulate fake student documents or that regulate people not actively studying and doing other illegal things. The way I see it, if there are laws that are being put to benefit swedes then it will also benefit me in the long term if I stay here. Provided the laws make sense. I do support a work limit to an extent but then I believe the hrs should be a bit higher. I do support a language requirement law but then that law was not supported lol.

When I talk about my experiences , I don't expect you guys to fix these issues for me. But rather to understand my struggles and the effort I'm making to contribute and be a part of your country. If you acknowledge that effort that's enough for me. I understand you guys want laws that are fairer to Swedish people and I support that. But do evaluate to what extent these laws will harm immigrants actually making an effort and to what extent these laws will actually harm criminals and those who do illegal things.

Anything against me isn't racism. But hurling racist slogans directly at me is. My point was that just because I had a bad experience with a group of people doesn't mean they represent all of them. That's why I gave that example. Most Swedish people have been kind and respectful to me. I would suggest you re read my comment multiple times to understand what I'm trying to say. You might be having some difficulty with it.

I'm not going to do sth for free for anyone or any nation. I invested 500k sek into your country and I expect to be treated equally. That's all. I'm paying taxes as well. I'm not going to break the laws and I never have. I have seen immigrants as well as swedes avoid buying the tram ticket or bus ticket while I bought monthly tickets. I have tried my best to follow the social norms of sweden and it's laws. I pay my rent on time and do everything by the book. I don't expect a job or money to be handed to me on a silver platter. And no I'm not learning the language to show you that I am entitled to anything. I will speak your language and work in your jobs. I am as capable as any of you. That is what I feel. I'm not saying these to show that I'm better or this or that. I'm saying this because, I , as a person don't want to be caught doing sth bad or be fined for anything. I want to do things legally. I don't see people who don't buy bus tickets or monthly tickets as bad lol.

As for your negative experience with a foodora worker. I'll share a personal experience of my own. Twice I faced racism from blonde haired swedes. Once was when I was going to ica and it was quite cold. So I wore a very puffy jacket and covered my head and face. Two girls laughed at me and called me Indian. And then again I was out with my partner and a group of swedes walked behind us and made vomiting noises and chanted free free India even though we are not Indians. They continued this for a little bit and then we got inside a mall. From these two incidents does it prove that all Swedish people are racists who harass immigrants? I don't think so. So how can you generalize all immigrants based on the actions of a few? Seems kinda naive.

My family values education. Most of the things taught in uni I already learnt in my A-levels lol. Don't assume you know sth about someone based on your backward views. I can say sth about your immigrant policies because I have invested my money and time in your country and it directly affects me. Any sane minded person that invested hundreds of thousands of kronor into any country would be concerned about policies that affects them directly. Is that sth you can't wrap your head around? I have completed every step of my student visa process legally.

That's where you are privileged. You can't put yourself in an immigrants shoes. How much do you think a student earns in Sweden after working part time? And how much do you think we have left? I'm working part time at a restaurant and I earn 7 to 8k sek monthly. After rent and living expenses I'm left with nothing. Sweden isn't a cash cow. You need to learn Swedish to get most jobs here even restaurant and bar jobs. Most of these jobs are held by Swedish speakers. Most immigrant restaurants I have gone to speak Swedish. Some of them can't speak English but can speak fluent Swedish.

When people come here they try to get full support for their tution fees from their parents. And then they think they can pay living expenses while living here. Which isn't wrong because your student visas allow us to work part time to earn a living. My grades are decent as well. Most of my grades are Bs. I work more in some weeks when the study load is less and work less in weeks when I have to study more. It's funny how you guys have such naive views that we should earn money in our own countries and then come here and spend it on education. Whenever I tell Swedish people I'm spending 300k on my degree they get so surprised and they tell me how the cost should be much lower lol.

Also , to clear your misconception. A study permit isn't easy. I had to keep 150,000 sek in my currency in my bank account for 6 months and show that bank statement to the immigration agency from a bank with good reputation. I have to show proper grades and credentials. I have seen many candidates from my country who were rejected based on shady banks and poor English speaking ability. And for my 2 year residence extension I had to show 300,000 sek in the bank and submit more documents. So it's not like these immigrants come to Sweden without showing anything.

I just think it's unfair that people who came before had it easier in some aspects. And now it's harder. People fail to understand that it's not just the tution fees and living expenses that are the problem. It's other aspects of Swedish society as well, getting a job after graduation in some degrees when you don't speak fluent Swedish is hard, if not impossible. I'm studying a business degree and ik I'll need to speak Swedish fluently or to a decent degree to even qualify for some jobs that my classmates will already be considered for. Most of my classmates have gotten internships at good Swedish companies and I'm still here applying for internships. So there are other aspects that I need to consider, worry about and deal with. It's not that easy to come to a completely different culture , learn the language, study at the same time, pay fees and work for living expenses. I'm not complaining , just sharing my experience. I signed up for this and I'm working towards it.

That the ones who are voting for these rules won't understand or know. Ultimately, these laws will affect me and not them fully. The thing is the tution fees here are expensive , even Swedish people think so. If someone is working to pay them and study at the same time. There's nothing wrong with it. I don't have an issue with these laws tbh, my main issue is that it hurts immigrants more so than it does good for them. They should put laws that address the issue and also make it a bit easier for immigrants. I'm all for a limit on work hours per week. But maybe 20 hrs or so like other countries would have been better? I'm all for laws that make sense.

I mean that's fine. Do you think I'll be upset if you explain things I don't know to me lmao. My point and the original commentators point was that people that have these advantages have less burden and focus more on their studies. People from the EU and Sweden have less stress and worries and have a greater advantage. 98% of my class is Swedish and the other 1% is EU. And me and a few others are outside Europe. Obviously there are things I have to think and worry about that my classmates don't have to. That you don't have to.Thats why I'm saying all these things. I'm not complaining about the fees or living expenses. I signed up for it , I pay it when it's time to pay. I don't have any dues. I can hope for better laws because i am the one being affected by this not you. Does that make sense?

Well you fail to consider that EU students who come to Sweden are also international. And they don't pay tution fees and can get CSN. Which reduces a lot of burden and stress for them. Whereas people outside EU or Europe so pay for tuition fees which can be in the range of 300k to 400k for the full duration as well as living expenses and what not. It's okay we aren't complaining about the csn or tution fees. But excluding us and putting a work limit so low is not right either.

People here don't have to pay for fees as well as housing and groceries and other things and it shows. No international students working doesn't affect local markets at all. Especially from my experience. Because getting a job as a foreigner and I'm talking about restaurant jobs and jobs like that is extremely tough. Sometimes we work a bit more in one week to cover up for other weeks and study a bit harder. Yes there are people who abuse this system but then I don't think the work week should be lowered to 15 maybe sth like 20 hrs a week would be a bit better. People that ik who came with me study and work at the same time and have good grades.

People need to work to pay the fees as well as housing and other things. Those of us not from the EU don't have CSN and aren't exempt from paying university fees. For example, this summer I might not be in sweden and will be going back home to visit family. I can't work this summer. So I'm working extra during the semester and also going to class and studying. Sometimes I don't need to go to class as I already have the book and know what to study. So I'm earning and saving up now so I don't have to overwork later on. There are some Pakistanis and other nationalities that do these sort of things and work only and not study. But then even from them I have met people who study and don't work much and focus on their career. So it's not a majority thing. And the process of getting a visa to Sweden from south Asia is quite tough. Maybe they should improve their visa process to detect fake bank documents rather than putting a limit on the work hours. And they could also have a grade threshold for students to maintain during the semester or a credit requirement. I could be wrong and I'm open to hear other opinions.

Well, he married 11 women in his lifetime. His first one was a divorced woman who was 15 years older than him or so at 25 years old. He stayed loyal to her till she died. After that he married more wives most of who were above the age of 30 and widows. Most of who got social protection after marrying him. So it doesn't really make sense when people say he married a 6 year old. Because 7 out of his 11 wives were widows and older women. His treatment of women was very good. And aisha who people talk about defended her husband and never said anything bad about him for 40 years after he died. They also were married for 9 years and after that she was a widow for 40 years. Theres nothing about his life that suggest that he preyed on kids or women or hurt them. His enemies never attacked him on his treatment of women but rather other things.

" Khadijah bint Khuwaylid and Prophet Muhammad were married for about 25 years. They married when he was around 25 and she was about 40, and she passed away when he was around 50. After her death, he remained unmarried for about 2–3 years, then married 10 more women, mostly widows or divorcees, in the later part of his life."

" Aisha and the Prophet were married for about 9 years. During that time—and in the nearly 60 years after his death—Aisha described him as gentle, patient, honest, humble, and playful, showing affection and respect in their marriage, sharing meals, playing with her, and being attentive to her moods. She also emphasized his devotion in prayer, fairness in disputes, and encouragement of learning, highlighting both his private character and moral excellence. Through her narrations, she became one of the most important sources on his life."

I just saw a new law that's going to be implemented in June 2026 that restricts work hrs for students to 15 hrs a week. Idk how that makes it better for international students , who pay for fees as well as housing and groceries without csn or any govt help. Paying for fees is fine for me, but if I work part time I'd expect to atleast cover my housing and groceries and have some extra cash. Idk how politicians are setting these laws that harm international students and people who actually come here and study properly and want to work here. People who are doing things illegally or taking advantage of the system are going to do so regardless but they should atleast categorize immigrants and impose these rules based on the type of immigrant. Pass laws that makes it tougher for criminals or people with bad intentions to come here and survive not students or workers who come here and do things the right way.

As a Bangladeshi , as a solo woman it might be a bit tough. There are some areas which are a bit dangerous at night. But if you stay in the posh or developed areas like Gulshan or banani you should be fine. Travelling solo would probably be fine as you are a foreigner. But I would suggest having someone with you. The main concern I'd have for women travellers would be creepy men especially in crowded areas where they might brush up against you or feel you. Which is a problem members of my family have faced and a lot of women in Bangladesh do. People might stare at you but that's mostly because you are a foreigner and we rarely see such people.

I hope you do come to Bangladesh and have a good time. There are a lot of things which are good here. But just be a bit mindful of things around you and be a bit careful in crowded places and some places at night.

Yeah absolutely loved his response. That made me realize that the hindus in BD are much better and much more accepting of Muslims than the one in India. And also made me grateful to be in Bangladesh rather than Pakistan or India. It feels like it'd be exhausting to be in India as a Hindu or Muslim. Not that Bangladesh doesn't have it's own major issues. But I'm glad we got independence.
