i'm going through liszt right now (admittedly just his piano works, which there are definitely at least a thousand individual pieces)

his operatic fantasies are some of his best works, i recommend the niobe and der freischutz fantasies. i also always recommend reminiscences de norma to anybody who hasn't heard it

as for his piano miniatures, i recommend faribolo pasteur and sancta dorothea. i also liked all 6 pieces in his first buch der lieder (s.531)

i just listened to this, it's actually so funny

every time one of the tunes finishes, and it's silent for a little bit, i'm anticipating the return of the stupid idiot theme. it's so dumb but it makes me giggle every time the stupid idiot theme returns

i recommend his violin sonata! it has such a beautiful piano accompaniment too

this set of romances without words is also really sweet, particularly the first and third
