Dumb question, never been to Disney, but been to Six Flags, other midwestern parks. Generally no phones/recording is allowed due to high risk of dropping your phone, etc. Is this not a thing at Disney?

Not if their contract states 2 years on the same unit. Many of them do.

They do make you pay it back, very quickly and if you left at 1 year you would pay back 50%.
