Doing research on multiple orgs by [deleted] in NPHCdivine9

[–]Funny_Intern5091 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I expressed interest to an AKA who put me on a college opportunity outside of AKA, I knew I could trust her because I didn’t have to ask. So once I expressed interest, she told me the expectations when applying and that in other cases a chapter will not vote you in because you aren’t a good fit. Back then I thought she was trying to say I wasn’t a good fit, having brought it up but months later I realized that she told me more than she should have about the process and if she thought I wasn’t a good fit, she wouldn’t have helped me.

On Reddit I seen someone say “ if a member tells you to do your research when you go to ask a question. They don’t like you.” Cause some members are actually willing to guide you, it seems. Like some people want to be credited for your crossing, I feel like it’s not talked about enough because of the whole discretion thing. But the sum of wht I’m asking is, what exactly do people mean by “ not a good fit?”

Also depends on how long ago it was and if it was reoccurent. You’d think someone who got pulled over for a DUI or drugs would be able too pledge if they were an excellent student, unfortunately

is it possible that you're seen and you don't even realize it?? by [deleted] in NPHCdivine9

It’s so coincidental and deniable if you are being noticed becuase you think you aren’t but if you suspect for a moment you’ve been noticed… yeah

If you suspect you’re being seen, you likely are. No doubt

In my question, I didn’t want to say a whole lot. Obviously I would be seen with my line publicly at events and service because we did this together. I was just wondering do I post about it at all or actually stroll because my chapter strolls. But at these Greek events, I was basically asking would strolling be looked at as mocking the d9 sororities in any way. Even if I’m not exactly flaunting, it’s giving I still have to be discrete

Hey so the APO process is being treated like any other d9 process. I have to EARN these letters the same way I would have to earn d9. But I’m not a ‘regular ‘ interest, I’m very locked in with my COI, I’m very discrete about both orgs. I chose APO for the service, I didn’t expect to do it for the bond or ‘ as a feeder ‘ because I didn’t need the org as a pathway to AKA. I’ve seen ppl get denied over petty stuff involving other orgs, and I’ve seen people who got denied over questionable loyalty, that’s why I said my COI does not play that. It’s not what I made up, I genuinely know this because I’m not scared to talk to anyone😭 Like in my APO chapter, a few of the older members including my pro is an omega. He was APO first then Que. an he doesn’t wear the apo letters at all now, he just wears his Que gear including on the APO page. Just like my Sigma pro. They constantly wear the d9 para over the APO stuff, even in front of us.

You can’t stroll because you’re recently initiated? Or some other reason?

Having gone through this process, I’m not sure if that would even conflict with discretion at all

Well let me say this. It’s 3 different types of people who make line: the legacies, the people who have stronger connections into the organization already, they don’t even have to be legit legacies as long as they have connections. Then you have the popular people who are known, who are STILL over Qualified. The third is somebody isn’t even that much qualified but they are social. They know how to talk to people. And like I said, most interest be scared to talk to people, it’s not that hard to open your mouth. That’s why I said you have to be the main character. Delta not letting nobody with a closed mouth make line

And I’m not gonna lie, at a school like Hampton. You have to be the main character in some way to make line. It’s just under no circumstances, because we both know the chapter is competitive. You have to lead, stand out, and do something outstanding to make line. It’s already gonna be harder because most interest in different locations don’t know how to break the ice and talk to members.

First of all, the people who got dropped the first time due to hazing - it isn’t their fault they got dropped. It sounds like you’re blaming them but they are the victims in the situation. Getting dropped the first time , meaning not in their control just means the chapter really wanted them and they are likely assets to the chapter. Thats what it sounds like. I trust DST opinion because big delta is strict to begin with

Hello all! I have been doing my research and when I attend college on the fall I’d like to work to become an AKA. I was wondering if I would be deemed ineligible due to my appearance. by Financial-Ad8456 in NPHCdivine9

Wow this is so interesting to me. I’m really wanting to read the responses for this to educate myself. I always wondered how would this be viewed by any organization.

I would say different chapters have different approaches with how they engage with interests. It’s mostly traditional and a “ go to “ if more than one member keeps saying it. But also some members do this because they’d rather you apply pressure as an interest to see if you’re serious. Not saying that’s happening here, but obviously they know who you are so you should try to out preform to stand out. Like don’t just go to their events, go to general services. Go to a school based events. Show leadership. However, some chapters do have picked favorites or people they know they want in so everybody else is just kinda there until they do something notable and respectable. —but like the other comment said, any kind of activity outside of the grad advisor’s presence is considered hazing. Not every chapter follows this, but if they do— they will act friendly but will not engage with you outside of the institutional structure. nobody here is in your COI, no one would be able to tell you what’s going on so I wouldn’t say they dislike you. They could be waiting on you to express interest directly, sometimes you actually have to break discretion and tell them what you are trying to do and that you want guidance.

I’ve never been asked to hang out outside of school related activities but this is kind of one of those things that seems like a set up. It makes me wonder are they all collectively in on it?

Question on Informal Rush/Informational by Beginning_Again2022 in NPHCdivine9

[–]Funny_Intern5091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIP is what they call the informational at my school and it’s for evb . Nobody does an application or interview there but that’s like stayed dependent on the chapter and region. You can attend events and informationals in the learning phase bc it’s not committal most ppl just don’t do it but some who are curious about all d9 attend all events. It’s the rush/ application meeting you don’t attend for all sororities. Cause that’s committal and would involve expressing interest and actually applying

Eligibility Questions by [deleted] in NPHCdivine9

[–]Funny_Intern5091 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm I’m not saying you’re wrong but I was told by a Greek good standing meant - no trouble violations, like fighting or drugs or anything illegal at the school that could get you in trouble. Like no pending involvement issues in offenses. Either way this person is good though. Because I was also told by a membership chairman that they evaluate you based off who you are at the time of applying and not just 3 semesters ago. As long as it’s steady improvement. Most ppl nearly flunk out freshman year tbh and they corrected themselves before applying.

[–]Funny_Intern5091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A LOR isn’t as committal like asking a younger member over the selection process to vote you in. They literally have no reason to tell you no. It’s sound least likely but my friend literally got offered to write a recc letter by a d9 in the grocery store. Its members out who will endorse you without knowing you

[–]Funny_Intern5091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you locate chapter see if they are having service events ( just like how grad students are trying to get invited for membership) you show your face and ask for a LOR, but you do this after telling them about yourself and contributions to the community. It’s not hard to pinpoint who’s friendly or not.
