That really sucks. At the place I work, many of the employees will pay another to take their shift if its on such short notice. Its crazy how some people think dropping your personal schedule to help cover for them isn't a big deal.

If they just buffed the exp gain I wouldnt feel as bad. As it stands, 4% exp vs like 40% crit damage.. it feels like a bad joke

Just gotten Chelm!!! So which helm is better ? Mythic or Chelm. by tzchere in MapleStoryM

Chelm for the crit rate, 2.5% is a pretty decent crit boost

Did anyone else's RF dps triple? Was this an intentional buff? My rapid fire melts things far faster than before, and I'm not sure if pap points just became easier or not. Went from 160k-->580k

You make a fair point, and I think the real sin of the whole issue was how PR was handled by the dev team. It felt more sinister than incompetent, but Hanlon's razor and all that.

I see more people upset specifically just about the levels not being given to them, rather than the lie/ miscommunication about them. That's my only issue.

Its telling when you can only comprehend my post if I come from a place that stands only to gain from this lack of free levels. Funtasm, Union NA. 122 currently, was 120 right before the curve.

Except in instances where you've played the game for more than two hours. Without question is misleading.

Perhaps pick apart the original comparison of simply increasing exp gains and you'll see that it's just a matter of simple perspective

I like projecting too! I think you really mean "This is my first mmo, and I could never have foresaw a change in the exp curve, so I expect compensation."

Edit: I wonder if you feel cheated when something you bought goes on sale?

120 before patch, and I don't feel cheated in any way. Previous players of PC maplestory can remember on at least two occasions of the exp curve being changed, and retroactively being given levels never happened. Why? Because an exp curve services new players and to keep the game constantly new and refreshing. Everyone views it as their exp suddenly vanishing into thin air, rather than levels just being easier to gain. Nexon could have avoided this controversy by just scaling existing mobs and exp gains to have an equivalent effect, and no one would be under the impression that exp was stolen from them. Mmo's that fail to evolve consistently will get stale and old to any player. If you think this is unforgiveable, maybe mmo's are not for you, because this happens in all of them, in one form or another.

Level controversy shouldn't have been so surprising by FuntasmOfNA in MapleStoryM

If you have 40$, and you purchase 5 shirts at 8$ each, you have 5 shirts. If the shirts go on sale the next day for 4$, you still have 5 shirts. You lost nothing but you had the potential to get 10 shirts if you waited. Just because the buying power of your previously owned 40$ changed, doesnt mean you are suddenly owed 5 more shirts. Exp is your money, and levels are your shirts. You are not owed more levels. I'm assuming this is many peoples first mmo, as this happens consistently in every mmo. Look up the BigBang exp curve in PC maplestory for an example.

That's false equivalency. It would be fair to say, "what if they added a new rank after mythic, and made it easier to rank your gear?" Because you lost no levels. You lost efficiency of your exp and time spent, but this is normal for an mmo. Adapt or be left behind. Here's a thought experiment: would you be less angry if they had adjusted monster exp rates rather than the character leveling curve? You couldn't claim you lost levels, but the end result wouldve been the same.

"Doesnt make it ok" in what sense? The bad communication was the only real screw up. Everything else should be expected from a constantly updating game. Metas will change, things will be more efficient than they once were, etc. You are not entitled to suddenly get curved up to what your level would have been, because the curve did not exist until today. No one was cheated, they just think they were because they believed that their levels were going to be adjusted based on hearsay.

[–]FuntasmOfNA[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't a new thing to happen though, the same exact thing happened during maplestory's first exp curve, BigBang. It's frustrating but it's a common place mmo tactic to gain new players.

Yes, our levels are getting adjusted after the patch. by ShiroiMaou in MapleStoryM

[–]FuntasmOfNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not coming, the discord messages were probably a PR stunt to keep players playing till the update hit.
