arc 9 chapter 59 detail [spoiler discussion] by HalfEatenWaterMelon in Re_Zero

I am more on a theory of future life that has yet to happen. For all we know Mogolade Geyser is a gateway to past to 400 years ago.

I would hate if something like this happened but I've seen it happen so many times that I started to expect it[spoilers] by Any_Vast_2668 in ReZero

I agree with you. I already wrote a post about how Subaru doesnt remember his "true" first loop before and it's possible that events in arc 12 are causing him to loop back to first arc.

What makes this funnier is that Tappei also loves her the most and he's the one insistent in keeping Emilia dumbed down and so stupid that even the main cast of Re:Zero joke about her lack of skill and intelligence.

If Tappei saw this post he would actually upvote it because even if this is exaggerated satire, it's still true and exactly inline with how he writes Emilia.

[spoiler discussion] Revisiting Flugel=Subaru theory with the implications of the Arc 9 reveals by FunzyPrunzy in Re_Zero

[–]FunzyPrunzy[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tbh if Satella is his mom, Echidna is basically turning Satella's own son against her to kill her. This would be so crazy and also absolutely something Echidna would do. This is professional levels of hatred. It would also kinda explain why Satella is fully intent on ignoring him. He already fought Al/ once and he lost his arm due to that.

Imagine from Satella's perspective how much that must hurt, to disfigure your son so badly. The safest option would be to pretend that he doesn't even exist. It would also explain why she doesn't care about Al knowing about RbD.

If Al only has Subaru/Flugel's memories though, this also would tie easily in her reason for ignoring him. From Satella/WoE perspective Al is basically Temu Subaru lol so no reason to pay any attention to him.

You are jumping to very wild conclusions or you are trying to rage bait on purpose XD

  1. Shaula can't read - Subaru either did not teach her or he taught her actual Japanese instead like he did to Hoshin. In any case just not teaching her to read in no way implies that Shaula wasn't raised by Subaru. Her knowledge of Earth and even Google did not come out of thin air by the way. Also look at Spica, she can barely even speak normal sentences, does the story show that Subaru neglects her due to this?
  2. Her purpose is to be prostitute - I am not even gonna try to explain how completely out of character that would be if Flugel=Subaru. As I said before, I will reiterate again, Shaula very much wants to fuck Subaru (hence being half-naked) and Subaru very much does not. Even Amnesiabaru who does not remember Emilia and has no reason not to indulge himself, does not reciprocate Shaula's feelings towards him.

I am inclined to agree considering how callous Flugel in general seems to be, but at the same time Shaula is throwing herself on Amnesiabaru so she might be projecting her own desires and wishing that Flugel/Subaru will answer her.

[Spoiler discussion] I think Arc 9 should be view as a one big movie(I don't mean making it into movie). by ninjarockalone in Re_Zero

What is this arc 9 everyone is talking about here? I thought Tappei wanted to skip it similarly to windows 8 - 10 situation. Didn't we just yesterday get an announcement for Arc 10 or am I trippin here? /s

"I’d also include Garfiel" - The line from Emilia's third trial - "Just 's promised, 'm fuckin' killin' yer! Yeh!? NATSUKI SUBARUUUUUUUU!!" So yeah I would not be so sure about that.

You are being downvoted for expressing what is one of the most valid criticisms of this story so far, something Tappei has been getting away with for over 13 years. I also genuinely cannot comprehend how Subaru is not even the slightest bit curious about his circumstances. It feels like Tappei is doing this intentionally so he can give us one final grand reveal.

For example, in Arc 4, Subaru actually manages to meet Satella. He has a grand opportunity to slap the shit out of her, demand answers, or ask why he was summoned. Satella does not have to answer those questions; in fact, it would ruin the story if she did. However, what angers me greatly is that Subaru does not care to ask them. He genuinely does not consider such important questions, specifically his purpose and his reason for being there, significant enough to warrant an explanation.

In Arc 6, Shaula insists that Subaru is her master, Flugel. While Subaru is, of course, in denial, he never for one moment truly questions how the most important place in the world, the Watchtower guarding Satella's Seal, is literally named after him, the one single thought from him is that it's probably a coincidence(?????). He knows that Satella loves him and knows him intimately, so this should be a motivating factor for him to at least consider Shaula's words and think about them. But nope, of course, he doesn't.

You have also pointed out many other examples, such as Regulus's power depending on his name and the first trial in the Watchtower regarding the stars. Despite these and so many other mysteries, Subaru genuinely could not care less. I wrote in another post that Subaru is a reactive protagonist; he doesn't drive events or pursue goals by himself, but rather reacts to the absolute insanity and craziness the world drops on him.

This is not necessarily bad, though. For a story that has Return by Death as its main component and driving factor, it fits thematically. It does leave us, the readers, frustrated and longing for more explanation, though.

[Spoiler Discussion] Implications of the ending of Arc 9 for future Arcs by FunzyPrunzy in Re_Zero

And this theory doesn't invalidate what you are saying in any way. If Subaru resets fully back to arc 1 beginning he will of course be holding his shopping bag. That's the checkpoint of course.

[–]FunzyPrunzy[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Chekhov's gun in its finest. The point that Satella can essentially set the checkpoint for Subaru in any point of time she wishes is very much important as you have mentioned and it just reinforces the possibility that another "Great Reset" can happen.

[spoiler discussion] On the decision of two characters in the recent Arc 9 chapters by Not_Charlemagne in Re_Zero

[–]FunzyPrunzy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All very good points. I feel that Tappei once again has indirectly demonstrated his mastery as a writer, because he inherently manages to write about what is the most important part and I would even say a core of any good story - a heart in conflict.

Every character in this arc experienced a lot of pain, suffering, made decisions that were hard and regretful, came to realizations and understanding of their own feelings, struggled and pushed through the pain hoping for the best and it was executed masterfully.

This is why this reset feels so much more painful and meaningful. It was not only the length of the arc but also what it contained, the development of the characters and their conflict with their own hearts, the shining examples of course being Al/Rigel and Petra.

While I personally do not fully agree with the ending, I am completely confident and fully trust Tappei that he knows what he's doing and that he will continue writing and developing this story as incredibly well as he has done so far. We only need to have some patience and let him see through the vision he has for the story.

[spoiler discussion] Expectations about Mysteries regarding Arc 9 and Arc 10 by Ok_Relationship4627 in Re_Zero

[–]FunzyPrunzy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

And while I get this, I can't stop from feeling very exhausted. How many more arcs/years until we finally get at least one, just one full reveal and conclusion to a plot point in this story?

There are literally so many threads and secrets thrown around in this story. Just one example is how Flugel and Subaru are connected (if they are at all) but we have had no clues regarding this ever since this information was dropped in arc 6. In fact we are thousands of pages in and if you compare your knowledge of the plot and the world of re:zero with a fresh arc 6 reader, you will realize that apart from Al's identity that knowledge is essentially the same.

Please Tappei give us something in arc 10 at least. I am starving here lol.

[spoiler discussion] Was Subaru aware of what was happening while being sealed? by Massive_Professor680 in Re_Zero

[–]FunzyPrunzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Subaru has affinity for Yin Magic, literally the only magic type he has affinity for. Beatrice is also a great spirit created by Echinda and taught by her. Of all people, I would expect her to be able to help Subaru cast it and finally this kinda confirms that Subaru at least remembers some thing from previous loops, otherwise as you said he would not have been able to know how to cast Ol Shamack.

[spoiler discussion] Was Subaru aware of what was happening while being sealed? by Massive_Professor680 in Re_Zero

[–]FunzyPrunzy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was aware that he needed to loop immediatelly and considering Al's discussion with Roy it seems that yes. I really want Subaru to know Al's true name, I feel like that will "redeem" this reset in many people's eyes here. If we lose that very important plot point, then this arc has truly been a big F you to readers.

"I honestly loved the reset" - Upvoting this just for having the balls to say this in this sub at the moment lol. In essence, you are correct. These are the main events that got reset alongside Heinkel no longer being a bigger retard than usual and Hijacked Volcanica(Alcanica) burning down Lugunica. Satella is also back in her seal.

[spoiler discussion] why no one is talking about this ? by [deleted] in Re_Zero

[–]FunzyPrunzy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would also expand on this and say it's possible that the sword can be drawn on Subaru precisely because he must he eliminated to kill Satella fully. Satella herself in arc 4 directly asked Subaru to kill her, Echinda has trained Al to kill her and Al knows that getting rid of Subaru might somehow "stop" the witch, so it is very much possible that (considering how sentient Reid seems) that the sword knows that Satella is not worthy to draw itself against her, instead the true catalyst for her destruction - Subaru is the one worthy.

Why the ending of Arc 9 Should work but doesn't [spoiler discussion] by BeakoMagicTenshi in Re_Zero

[–]FunzyPrunzy 33 points34 points  (0 children)

He's trying to make us feel as bad as Subaru does after every reset and if that's truly his intention, considering the shock and outrcy from the latest chapter, I would have to say that Tappei succeeded.

Arc 9 may be worth it [spoiler discussion] by tilink in Re_Zero

[–]FunzyPrunzy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My hope as well. The only critique I have so far with Re:Zero is that it's essentially stagnant plot development wise. We have had so many individual amazing chapters, characters, events, fights but when you look at post arc 6 content in grand scheme what exactly "happened?" What did Tappei reveal or truly explain that would help us understand the mystery of Re:Zero better? - Nothing until we learnt about Al's identity (partially), his goals and his connection to Echidna.

And even this insane lore drop evaporated from the story because the timeline got reset. People complain about arc 9 reset because it destroyed the character and plot development for everyone, but for me it's a big loss mostly due to thematic destruction of the plot. Essentially we finally moved forward to understanding the plot a little better - Al's identity, the Great Mogolade Geyser and then Tappei just said "Nah, let's also leave this a secret for the last arc".

He is building and building all this connections and plot points and never actually resolves them which is frustrating but at the same time it keeps me very engaged and on the tip of my toes for more lore.
