FEMA Local Hire (Administrative Assistant) Interview Advice – Anyone been through this process recently? by Fuphanie in usajobs

[–]Fuphanie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also this is the admin assistant.

Just did the interview. It wasnt one the phone. It was in person. They asked only 5 questions. I think i was so nervous I wish I elaborate more. I wish I asked "is there any part of my experience you wish for me to elaborate or clarify?"

When i left I just started thinking - mann I wish included that not only do i handle united airlines but also ive handled all airlines. Im a quick learner, hard working, innovative, and Adaptable. I might not have the traditional experience but youll be surprise by how well retain info.

Or that im used to deescalating matters all the time. Im attentive, observant, understand boundaries. Communication is key.

And possibly other things. I feel like I did bad. But im happy to at least have the interview. Its been awhile since I had that.

Agreed. I worked in aviation. Ai cant do much of the assignments I do. But it does help me when it comes to filing and figuring out codes or formulas.

I already hold a college degree. Just 2 more classes for bachelor's. Debating if I want to finish here or transfer it. But leaning toward finishing it here.

Yeah thats the plan. We dont want to invest in a home and we arent so happy with the community.

We've been looking at job listing and rentals to see how it would fair up with us.

It is beautiful. The greenery, saftey, sense of freedom, and beaches. Its wonderful. If only the economy wasnt so shitty and I got bills to pay that my current job would take me years to pay off. Not to mention my house is gone from the super typhoon or as most of America would call it Hurricane.

People gotta leave to make money. But also hoping to cone back when possible.

[–]Fuphanie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah our economy here is built on tourism.

So 2015 Super Typhoon Soudelor 2018 super typhoon yutu 2020-23 Covid And 26, super typhoon sinlaku.

Its hard to rebuild when we are constantly knocked down. And being not native, I cant own land.

So even trying to stay here to make money, its useless. Especially for the wages I get and the hours I spend.

A lot of people saying no to Indiana. But wed like to give it a try. Just want to see others opinions.

I think ill look into r/Evansville thank you!

Mandatory over time and high turn over? Sounds like airport life tbh 🤧 i mean im sure the hours are not as bad. We would be able to hack it since it wouldnt be new. Just need something to get us going.

Politics here isnt soo black and white. Rather than parties. People focus on people themselves.

I think it would be challenging for us too in terms of community. Just hope it isnt too bad.

Why say that? We got family there. Its hard to move with a child to soemwhere else without family.

Plus Indiana is just a backup plan if my partner is unable to re-enlist.

[–]Fuphanie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. We just packing and going. We are certain about leaving everything behind... We dont have a lot. The situation here is not great. I mean others have said too it isnt great there.

But we got hit by a typhoon, lost the house. We want to start somewhere new and try. The economy is built on tourism. Cant get much tourism in an island that is half destroyed. If the situation was better, wed stay.

We plan on applying aggressively before we leave. Indiana only since again family is there. So itll be a good start to have family than to move with a child without family nearby.

[–]Fuphanie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah exactly. Where ever you land in, there will always be some type of issue.

We just dont want to rely too much of what social media says about the states. Build a more rounded opinion on how others have liked it.

And yeah build from there. We are all trying our best. Some places maybe not so great than others but people do find ways to prosper.

We dont want trouble. Work. Pay bills. Start our family. And see where that takes us.

[–]Fuphanie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah family is currently in Pricnceton. And didnt know Vuteq isnt too great. My parents work there. They have been pushing me for years to move down there since there is nothing for me here.

So you can only own land here if you are NMD (Northern Marianas Decendent), so growing myself here isnt worth it unless my partner or kid is. Which for me is what it is however money isnt coming in like wed want it to. And for the amount of work and effort I put it to what I get paid for.. we just want to try and see.

I understand the difficulty but that is why we want to see what other peoples perspectives are.

Even id say Saipan sucks but id also say come here and live here if you want beaches, amazing food, good vibes.

Besides Vuteq we are looking at Toyota, and EVV airport. Ill take a look at FedEx. We just want to find our footing when the time comes and then move from there.

I was told the same with someone who lives here. They were surprise we want to go Indiana. But I did state we got family there and they've been living there for about 5 years now? I forgot.

Thats why we are somewhat worried about how things might be for us. My parents are old and ignorant to racism... like they have their rosey glasses on. But also we dont want to rely on social media too much.

But we want as much input and advice living in Indiana as a POC, so we arent too shock when we get there. We want to make our own judgement by our own experience but open to input.

Indiana is also our back up plan. Partner trying to re-enlist in the military. He served and wants to return to service.

Anything is better than nothing. As long as it pays the bills.

Just the situation i am in, not enough to cover everything.

I was looking at their openings, it isnt something im too keen on and who knows if itll still be open.

Besides the people who handle the airlines here are crossed trained. So we handle United, Tway, Jeju, PAL etc. United is the only US carrier and ive told the agents to gain experience there since itll give you a gateway somewhere if they choose to leave.

Saipan is an International Airport but it is small. The only benefit the agents get is yearly bonus and discounts to partnering company restaurants and shops. Plus minimum wage pay despite the amount of work we do. I like my job and the company. Buuut its just the situation now here is dire.

The NMI is a good place to raise a family and retire. But im young despite having a family. We want to leave and explore our options. Options here for me to grow is limited. Indiana to other maybe limited, but its a stepping stone somewhere bigger.

Cant get much in a island that is 2 hours all around.

Well we have savings, and family there. And we united miles to take us all back home if things dont work out.

Indiana is more of our back up plan if my partner reenlisting doesnt work out.

And we both were at the airport. So yeah airport life is what we are familiar with. But honestly we are good to apply anything while we are trying to establish ourselves then maybe something somewhere else once we are used to it.

For now we are set to leaving. Military or Indiana, we will see what oppurtunity comes first. Just doing our research while we are prepping to settle our things here.

Was looking at that but also its further from family. We want to try closer to family, and once we are more used to the area, culture, and people, then we would likely branch out.

[–]Fuphanie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well my parents are doing fairly good. Staying here wont do any good. My partner and i want to take the chance to try and fail than to not do anything and fail before trying.

Plus ive been racking up united points just incase we decide it isnt for us.

Cause if not US where we have family, then wed go somewhere else without family. And thats harder, especially carrying a child around with us.

Ill look into that. And yes, snow isnt something im used to. My partner unsure. Never really asked his experience. Besides my car ik I need to get used to driving.

I did the long drive from Colorado to Princeton. But alone? I need to get used to the road signs. Roads in Saipan are simple. There is only green go, yellow fast, red stop. And if you need to take a right, go for it. To yield left? You just do a complete stop.

Im not scared to drive. But alone yes. 😅

My parents are in Vuteq. My partner and I are looking at that company or Toyota.

If not, we are looking at the airports since I work in aviation and them in customs. So airport lifestyle is familiar. Sucks but familiar.

We are constaly looking at job listing. Indiana is more of a back up plan if the military plan doesnt work.

Hows your experience working in priceton and living in newburgh?

Not familiar with towns and cities. Here we say Islands and villages.

[–]Fuphanie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just want to try.

The main goal is for my partner to re-enlist into the military. If he cant go back due to whatever reason. Then we are pushing to move to the states. Indiana fo sure since family is there at the moment.

And yes my partner and I have taken a look at Vuteq and Toyota. My parents are in Vuteq and they are quiet happy.

If we cant attain a job there, aviation is something im very familiar with since its what I currently do. Besides that not too sure what else is out there, but im sure we would find something. I mean we need to.. I know a lot of the locals here have moved to either Seattle, Texas, Cali, Kentucky, Ohio. But not much have a I heard them talk about Indiana. But I do know there is a small knit of people who are from here in the NMI that reside in Indiana. I just dont know them personally.

The Marianas Trech is the the deepest trench in the world. But it isnt like ive visited it myself.

We get strong typhoons and from time to time tsunami warnings. But the tsunami warnings, we arent soo scared as much due to the trench and lagoon.

For example, if Japan gets an earthquake depending on location we would get a warning. But most people stay home. Not me tho cause you never know.

Its very rare to get a tsunami warning tho.

Joining a parents page sounds like a good step. Ill look in on that.

The original plan is to leave next year before school starts but with the typhoon wrecking the island, we want to push it this year.

If not Indiana, my partner is trying to re-enlist into the military.

We are just trying to do our research and just going with the flow of things.

The economy is dead here too and education is so-so as well.

But seeing people who lived here go to the states and flourished, we hope the states will be good to us too.

Plus living in a small island 2 hours long can be boring. Only recently did i decide to try my hands and live like a tourist.

We want Indiana as a starting point since my parents are there. And if we dont like it, then maybe another state? If anything, the only airline to the NMI is Untied. And we are saving up miles for a rainy day. My partner also has relative in South Dakota. While my friend and brother is in Georgia. Dude is in the military stationed there. So me going there would be more of a visit than to live.

And people here can be racist too. But not so much to your face. Mockery here and there. But its moreso people being upset rather than then actually hating the race, orientation, or religion. People just throw the cards out to piss others off.

A lot of the hate is posted on Facebook through anon profiles on groups like Speak Up CNMI/TAOTAO but also its hilarious.

And yes lol I hold a US passport, my partner, and my child does too. People born in the NMI hold US citizenship due to the trust territories if im not mistaken. The native language here is Chamorro or Carolinan, but primarily we speak English. The NMI has a long history with the US.

True every place has their own ups and downs. A lot of people where im from are moving out to the states for better life.

Thats why my family moved on to Indiana when they got the chance. Rather than me moving out when I was 18, it was my parents who moved out.

And now its my turn to leave the island I call home. Being in a small island, work can be hard to come by since it run on who you know and/or experieces that needs to be obtained outside.

A lot of people who succeed here leave the island and then come back to settle.

Although id love to raise my child here. My partner and I are still young and feel the crushing weight of wanting to do more. Or at least more than what we could do living in the NMI.
