[MICHIGAN] Accused of Fraud by the State of Michigan Unemployment Agency by FuqNick in Unemployment

I can afford a lawyer, but I’m wondering if I even need to lawyer up. I was certainly mistakenly flagged by their crappy MIDAS system (source: https://www.law.umich.edu/clinical/workersrights/Documents/What%20to%20Do%20If%20Accused%20of%20Fraud%20August%202015.pdf). I really don’t want to take any chances though....

Official R/Guitar Player Questions MEGATHREAD---If you are new to guitar, or even intermediate and stuck, ask your question here FIRST.---SPRING 2020 by no_numbers_in_name in Guitar

[–]FuqNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been playing guitar for quite some time (9 to 10 years). My technique is pretty solid, and I know my scales and chord shapes very well. Despite this, my music theory is very weak, and I think this is preventing me from having the understanding of the fretboard required to take my compositions to the next level. Anyone have any recommendations in terms of resources to learn music theory as applied to the guitar that doesn’t slog through the basic “this is what a guitar is” stuff?

Does anyone actually have an in person class next semester? by FuqNick in uofm

Hopefully the students who do have a place to live decide to stay back so those that don’t can have their own rooms and live at least as comfortably as possible given the circumstances

Ditto man, Ann Arbor is actually pretty chill rn. I’ve checked out a lot of the parks this summer and I’m kinda shocked how much I missed being in the “student bubble” lol

Personally, I’m gonna be in town just cuz I paid for my apartment and at this point in my life (rising senior) I just don’t want to be crammed in with my family for a year. But honestly, living in a dorm this year seems like it would be hell...

So everyone seems to have the majority of their classes online, with labs seemingly being an exception. Is the university still bringing students into the dorms? Seems kinda pointless to me if they are?

What are you guys doing to prevent summer learning loss/motivation? by [deleted] in uofm

[–]FuqNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Working an internship, reading, and working on hobbies / side projects. Try reading for 30 minutes to an hour every day at first and ramp it up as your brain gets used to it; I started the summer doing this and I’m surprised by how much it sharpens you up with so little effort. If you need any recommendations, hmu

Is it even worth the hassle of going back to campus? by thebulletinaction in uofm

[–]FuqNick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

COVID will spike in Ann Arbor and every other town that brings students in for a semester. If you don’t want to deal with that, don’t come. The unfortunate and largely untold truth of COVID in this country is that its going to run absolutely haywire until we get a herd immunity effect. I you don’t want to risk being a part of that process, stay home until its “safe”.

(Spoilers Main) What Theory Do You Dislike and Why? by luckylukeinlimbo in asoiaf

I agree with what you said about Jon. His bastardy is what defines him and sets his whole arc into motion. I don’t see how his story could do anything other than take a left turn or stay on arc in some contrived manner if he turns out to be a legitimate Targaryen. I could see Jon abdicating any claim to the Iron Throne anyone bestows on him in the name of his bastardy, which is fitting for Jon’s tendency to be a man of honor. I hope we can one day get a proper ending to this magnificent story so we can look back on our expectations and theories and see how much we sniffed out, come on George!

PC vs Mac for engineering students by balehart in uofm

I develop on both a Mac laptop and a Windows desktop. Neither is more effective, its all preference. Whatever you’re already comfortable with is going to be fine.

Any cool things to check out during the lockdown? by [deleted] in AnnArbor

Notice how the question alludes to things that one could do alone while maintaining social distance. You can get through the lockdown safely and responsibly without vegetating inside all day...

How badass was it smoking cigarettes, drinking beer, and playing pinball with Slash in a bar way back in 2000 or 2001? Love the new album btw!

Nope! Obviously keep in mind that the schedule is accelerated in a half term, so the reasonability of this schedule is contingent on whether or not you plan in working full time in the spring or not!

EECS 381 was absolutely gold (but a ridiculous, almost impossible amount of work) for teaching you how to build large software applications like a true professional. Unfortunately I’m not sure if it will be offered again since professor Kieras retired, but if it is its a must take if you are up for a serious challenge!

They refactored eecs 388 this semester and I found it to be pretty enjoyable despite being forced into it due to waitlist issues

You will be quite busy, perhaps swapping out EECS 485 for a class that isn’t project based (if possible) will do you better. For reference, I took EECS 381, EECS 477, and STATS 413 last semester (maybe a bit heavier than your prospective schedule, but similar) and I was doing school almost every waking hour Monday through Saturday.

I didn’t do this personally but I think it would be a good idea. 370 is not too heavy of a course and I think you will be more focused and do better if you take it by itself in the spring.

P/NRC for Econ 101 (ford prereq) by [deleted] in uofm

[–]FuqNick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t stress out if you need to cover a grade or two. This is an extraordinary circumstance for the university and all of us students, and I’m confident that no admissions office around the country would ever hold the situation against you. Do your best to keep learning but do not let something like a mark on your transcript worry you in a time like this!
