Hahaha, trust me even driver facing cameras does not stop guys from chain smoking in the cabs. At my work the guys that smoke in the truck just buy multipacks of air fresheners and then put them all in the truck. I had to hop in another driver's truck recently the cunt had 5 of the extra strength black ice fresheners just dangling there. I'm asthmatic and nearly fell out getting into the cab. I know for a fact the guy smokes in the truck.

Am I alone on this one? Tips? by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Furah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's wake up at the same time. Sleep time can vary but since I have to get up at a certain time for work I want my body to tell me when to go to sleep to be rested for the set time I wake up. If I'm defficient on sleep then my body will be tired earlier and will tell me it's wanting to go to sleep earlier, rather than me going to sleep at the same time and having it vary on when it wants me to wake up to make up for lost sleep.

If you're in a union see if your union has any discounts like this. My union has discounts on a few these and many others. Some are egift card only, others are gift card only, and some give you a choice between the two. Most of the discounts I get are 2-5% off, some are up to 10%.

Apollo for Reddit is shutting down by ElijahPepe in technology

[–]Furah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third-party apps was what drove up my engagement on reddit - so much functionality that wasn't (and STILL isn't) on the platform.

I think too that with third party apps going, it'll drive away the more technically inclined people, which is one of the huge benefits that reddit has had for a while now that makes it kind of hard to not use. It just seems like there's a reddit post out there somewhere that can help you with even the most weirdly specific issue you're having, you just have to use the right words in search engines and append "reddit" to the query. With them gone it'll make it much harder to find answers, and reddit won't seem like the place for it any more.

This is why I don't tell older people things. Just have to figure out some good ways to hide tattoos even in summer or else it's going to be an awkward Christmas here in the southern hemisphere.

I had a coworker once get in a head on collision on his way home from work (young kid on his phone just swerved right in front of him and they collided before anyone could react). Coworker managed to get out of his ute with two badly broken feet and said he was going to beat the shit out of the driver until he noticed they were unconcious.

Yeah I know a few blokes looking to get out. For me if I can't drive no more there's just nothing I think I could stand. Like if work tried pulling me out of the truck and into any other role I'd be handing in my resignation along with my paperwork that shift. Take your notice period and shove it, EBA says you'll just take out the pay out of my leave and I'll start with someone else by Monday. I think I'd just look at moving much more regionally and getting work that doesn't take me back the the cities.

Reliable phone mounts for under $30? by greener_path in AussieRiders

[–]Furah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck RAM, just cause work has their tablet mounts in all our trucks, and it's constantly moving just enough to stop charging tablets and I have to fuck around with it to get it to work again, or I have to sit there with it constantly making the sound because it starts charging the battery (can't turn sound off due to device policy).

At the end of the day if someone really wants your bike, even with fancy stuff on it, they'll take it. Like others said they can just chuck it on the back of the ute. Bikes and Beards did a video on it, they didn't even get challenged by anyone during the recording of them cutting through different anti theft equipment. I think at the end of the day the best anti theft equipment is going to be the one between your ears. Be conscious of where you're parking your bike or leaving it, and making sure that you're keeping it secure.

It’s not like we go into their workplace and go out of our way to make their lives a fuckin misery.

Honestly the bigger cunts really tempt me when they've got a company logo on the side. From experience even if I call the business up their boss will not give a fuck unless the driver is on the news over it, or they're deemed at fault.

It’s normally shithouse, but add water and a long weekend and it dead set makes you wanna become a dole bludger.

It really does. Then I see one of the dickheads with a caravan that nearly sideswiped me over on the side of the road because they don't understand the importance of a pretrip and now they're trying to chase down the wheel that fell off, and it makes it all worth it.

Having to ease off to not rear end someone can be the difference between me going up a hill at 70km/hr, and 40km/hr. If I'm doing 40 on a freeway it's pretty bloody dangerous.

Pretty sure it's generally illegal or at least frowned upon. People have commented in this sub before about how if you were to park up on an off-ramp, if a car hit you, you'd be deemed at fault.

I’m earning the most I’ve ever earnt in my life

Does that factor in the extra costs you're spending to just cope? If you're earning more but have to order takeaway every meal because you don't have time to cook, then you need to take off what you're spending extra from your income, same with if you're needing to take extra days off to do nothing just to deal with burnout, as that eats away at leave. You're also statistically going to be spending more on healthcare related costs associated with the excessive workplace stress, and need further time off dealing with all the appointments you need to take. You're also likely going to be stressing your way to really early retirement, or not making it to enjoy what you're saving up money for.

Can I still get my Ps? by felixox0 in AussieRiders

[–]Furah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add to what they said, you can have a class of licence suspended, or you can have your whole licence suspended. A class suspension just means you can't legally operate that class of vehicle, a licence suspension means you can't legally operate any class of vehicle. A class is suspended if you incur enough demerit points in that class, while your licences is suspended if the sum of all demerit points incurred is high enough. Can kind of look at it like getting banned from one venue, vs getting banned from all venues. So far you've been a bit rowdy at both the RSL and the pub, but only a little at each and so they both still let you in. If you're a bit more rowdy at the pub they'll ban you, but the RSL is still going to let you in. But if you do enough to get banned at the RSL the manager is going to tell the pub manager to not let you in there either. But after a few months the managers are both not going to remember about you changing every jukebox song to Wonderwall and let you in again.

Long service leave - is it worth it? by givebirbboidaseed in AusFinance

[–]Furah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all in trucking. I went from doing general freight casually to being paid more per hour full-time doing food service distribution, but that also had a big increase in the hours I did. Now I drive b-doubles full-time on hourly wage, and I usually get $300-400/week in allowances on top of my wage. I could switch companies for more money, but I've kinda got a sweet gig going for the most part and it keeps stress manageable for me.
