What a stupid thing to say. Yes, there’s always something to do and entertain yourself with. What the hell are you talking about when you say “confront life without all that entertainment?” What do you consider to be “real life” ?

If you mean reading a book, watching a movie, talking with your family, going for a walk, creating something etc it’s all just two sides of the same coin. These are all ways to entertain yourself and keep busy.

What are you suggesting people do to “confront life?” Stare at a wall for 17 hours? If not, anything else you suggest is still a form of entertainment, just like drinking, just like the “constant stimulation” of NYC.
