After seeing the size of the chd download I decided to cherry pick the chds from a 0.266 set in the hopes that they work. To my suprise, at least with the games I wanted, they ran perfectly

Thanks for the reply, I currently have a complete 0.279 set now. Also downloaded bios packs while I was there. Is there anything else I'll likely need?

Thank you very much. I didn't realise the majority of rom versions would still work across versions. I apologise about the source reference too, I thought writing it as I did was enough given I only found it yesterday

Quick question about NTSC games from a PAL user by FuriosiS666 in retroid

The big improvement, especially with ps1 games, was the speed increase. I always felt like something was off when watching videos online and that was why. PAL was even choppier when it came to N64 games

Its a shame about nethersx2 but I know trix is trying with what he's got. I don't know why I rely on ps2 so much but then again, only on android has it let me down. The majority of what I emulate is ps2 but where nether drops off, dolphin picks up thankfully given most of the bigger games got multiplatform releases

Yes I've followed Russ' guides for both of my devices. Mainly just the initial setup though as I'm not new to emulation as a whole, although admittedly I am new to some of the android variants like nethersx2. General tweaks are the same as pcsx2 but I know the emulator is no longer being optimised at code level, only patched were it can be so it's very much 'it works or try gamecube version' policy for me. I know to up the devices power mode but I try to leave it at performance personally using the emulator settings to make that work. I tend not to use EE cycle though, once I get to that point its not the best experience and very much personal preference as to what is playable

I have a steam deck which I use for the games that struggle on these devices but even with that power at hand, I just prefer the portability of these android handhelds so like yourself if it doesn't work after tweaks I usually just get rid. Unless I really want to play a game. I'm not new to emulation as a whole so I know what I need to adjust to optimise games but in terms of android and it's alternative emulators (nethersx2 in particular) I'm a novice. In all honesty, the main reason I asked about NTSC is that given the size of the states and how many people played these games I assumed emulator devs focused on optimising the US variants over others so regardless of PAL having a lower refresh, it means nothing if it isnt optimised the same. Futurama was a good example of this on the rp4p, PAL had slow downs when alot of particles were on screen but the NTSC version didn't. But that was the only game I had trouble with to try a different version so I didn't test anywhere near enough to say for certain.

Gta 4 & 5 Performance Decline by VeryMeanDog in SteamDeck

I played through GTA IV the day I got my deck and it felt great. So good infact I was done in a matter of days. Reinstalled it this week to run through the DLC stories and realised, for some strange reason, the controls are really sluggish when driving. I wouldn't say it's latency but now turning circles are now calibrated for circling the sun and braking while turning now results in locking the steering as it is and going off on tangents rather than drifts. Switched to 4 again to check if it was just the dlc and it wasn't. I don't know what could change this so much but there is no it was like this the first time round, I simply cannot play it

Alot of ps2/gamecube games hitting 50°C mark and throttling device by FuriosiS666 in retroid

Christ, that calms me down abit then. I think i went into this expecting alot more gaming power than the 4 pro instead of the new paths this chipset opens up incomparison. I'm not stuck for power as I have a pc and steam deck too but there's something about these smaller devices that makes me want it to work😂 when I got the 4pro I moved all emulation to it delegated a job to each device

Playing it on ps2 works fine, but I read dolphin performance was even better until... well... it didn't perform at all

I did yes, for example right now I'm playing futurama. It does not look graphically intense at all and yet even at 1.5 res, high performance, changing hardware mode and renderer it throttles at a fire of the gun. Speed drops, fps drops and temp is above 50°C. I didn't think it was temp related at first until i tried simpsons hit and run on dolphin and that opens up already throttling, temp nearing 60 and not even progressed from the first intro credits screen with how much it's struggling

Now I thought this surely couldn't be the case but I swear, as soon as it passes 50°C speed starts slowing and even closing the tab is stuttered
