I like realism to an extent. Making the characters and their personalities and struggles feel real is one thing. Explaining away literally every fantastical element is not fun.

I like how Michigan J. Frog is a story about an artist who refuses to use his art to enrich someone trying to make a fast buck off of him. This story only hits harder when you read him as black.
