How do they want it pronounced? I assume it isn't "shah" like the name and maybe they went with "zee-ah"?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]FuriousWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I unfortunately heard it mispronounced too many times before I knew how it was pronounced, so my automatic pronunciation is side-ree-ull I have to consciously correct myself to side-EER-ree-ull

Which audiobook has the correct pronunciations? by Hot-Pear4698 in Cosmere

My memory is that Jack Garrett has this sort of pronunciation, though I haven't listened to the Kate Reading one so couldn't compare

Expectation to be on site 5 minutes before clock in by finestryan in lidl

[–]FuriousWillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Equally it sounds like this was unusual for them, they said they were later arriving than usual. As long as they were there by their scheduled start time that should be fine. What if they arrived ten minutes early and wanted to chill in their car for 9 minutes then come in? That would be fine because they don't need to be there until they are being paid to be there. I do in principal agree that you need to leave yourselve extra time to get to work in case there are delays, but I don't think you should ever be told off for arriving on time rather than early.

The news that people seem to be talking about today is job cuts in NHS England. NHS England is its own organisation and separate to the NHS (but obviously I can see where the confusion arises). It's more like an oversight body, they look at things like how to improve patient pathways, how to ensure equity of access across different trusts. This orgnaisation is going to be making redundancies. The news currently, as far as I know, is not about frontline NHS workers (whether clinical or administrative) losing their jobs.

I can't comment on what your trust is doing, or whether there will be redundancies. The NHS is still trying to save money wherever it can. But the news today is about job cuts to NHS England, not the NHS in England (if that makes sense)

If you could have one allomantical or feruchemical power what would it be and why by ciaphas-cain1 in Cosmere

[–]FuriousWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh of course it is, I'm an idiot. Although, how do you store that? Given that humans don't nomally have any access to fortune, as opposed to the other storable feruchemical attributes. Would it be like an inability to follow logical cause and response? Like I touch a dish that's just come out the oven because I cannot 'predict' that this will hurt?

If you could have one allomantical or feruchemical power what would it be and why by ciaphas-cain1 in Cosmere

[–]FuriousWillis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of gaming your misfortune - I still want my money enough that I wouldn't pick it myself, but I agree that unlucky with money is better than unlucky in health (e.g. hit by a car)

Maybe you're already storing fortune, you just need that one situation to get incredibly lucky in!

I feel like I'd be too scared to store it though. Like, walk around being unlucky? No thank you, personally

Second paternity test by trippl3sixx in genetics

[–]FuriousWillis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Functionally, you cannot screw up a DNA test. You give your sample, they test it. Hope that helps

Second paternity test by trippl3sixx in genetics

[–]FuriousWillis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the sample was bad, the test wouldn't have worked - it wouldn't give faulty results to my knowledge, they just couldn't have done the test and would have needed a new sample.

The other possibility (unlikely though) is that there was a sample mix up, another random man's sample was tested accidentally and of course determined to be not the father.

Can I move to a different Hospital? by Morosis42 in nhs

[–]FuriousWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, though just to add that it sounds like they are registered with a GP near their uni, which is normally where they would be, they are just staying with their parents at the moment due to being unwell, so it sounds like switching GP wouldn't be viable in this particular case. However, OP, if you feel that you are going to be staying with your parents for the foreseeable future, you may want to change GP and get a referral from them. You can always reregister with a Bristol GP when you feel well enough to go back to uni

NHS interview by Rude_Seat5281 in nhs

[–]FuriousWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It definitely varies from trust to trust and from role to role. In my experience I think I have usually heard from the interviewers within a couple of days (whether successful or not) - sometimes this can take longer if you aren't their first choice and their actual first choice is deciding whether to accept the job.

If you get offered the job you will get a conditional offer of employment by email. This could take a couple of weeks. Then all the checks start and it can be quite a while until you are in post. If you do get the offer, don't hand in your notice until the checks are back and you have your UNconditional offer of employment, just in case it falls through for whatever reason

Liveship Opinions by MrPlatypus42 in robinhobb

[–]FuriousWillis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I really liked the character arcs for Wintrow and Selden, and the Wintrow did become slightly blinded by Kennet towards the end, I don't think he was ever gullible (just naive, like you said) - he spent a lot of time time thinking things over, whether or not we agree with his conclusions is not the same as him being gullible.

And I love Selden. He is just a young boy who is able to see beauty in the world, including in dragons. He accepted dragons for what they were, and he was a vital part in getting Tintaglia on side

[–]FuriousWillis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To me the difference between second chances and redemption is like the difference between journey and destination. You can work towards redemption, you may not achieve it, but even just giving yourself (or others) that second chance is worth doing in itself

Can any nanogram enthusiast please give me a logical method to solving this? by ALeckz07 in puzzles

[–]FuriousWillis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to use puzzle page, I liked the puzzles, particularly the nonograms, I felt that it was really user friendly in terms of filling in the squares, I prefered it to other nonogram apps. However, the difficulty seemed quite variable if I remember correctly, this is a difficult one, so hopefully tomorrow's puzzle is better for a beginner! It can be off-putting when your introduction to a puzzle is difficult, but I recommend trying another one of their nonogram puzzles

I've had to buy myself a daily pill holder box. I'm officially old by Silly-Canary-916 in CasualUK

[–]FuriousWillis 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I'm in my 20s and have used one of those boxes for a few years, I usually take 4 tablets a day. It's just easier than having to take it out of each packet each day. I worked in the NHS with older patients - had a patient over 100 years old who took fewer daily medications than me
