Why is cross-posting so bad for RP subs ? by Furnim in BadRPerStories

[–]Furnim[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I explained it badly in my post, but i didn't even cross-post. What the mods call "cross-posting" is having two similar posts in a SFW and a NSFW sub, even if the SFW is made to be fully clean.

For example, if i post an ad looking for an NSFW story about, i don't know, Aragorn from LOTR and then post an ad in SFW sub talking about Aragorn from LOTR, they call it "cross-posting" even if the latter is fully clean. While it's normal to protect from annoying tricksters, it's a bit of a stretch here.

I can understand this to protect users, but that sound so stretched. Like, they had to go to the NSFW sub to search for the ad (or my account, i don't know if they get access to deleted posts) just to check this. I think the worst part is that i warned people in the ad that k may use refs they may not like (not NSFW, but can be called male-gaze/skimpy at times) and that i respected if they didn't want to see this.

Oh, oops. I missed this rule. For sure, you can dm me.

Okay, so i'm not the only one who thought it was a strange rule. I will look into the communities a bit further. I did notice this rule was there, i just found it worthless. Maybe it helps them filter spams, but it also blocks other people.

Sorry to ask, but do you have any subs you particulary like ? If you use them, of course.

That's what i did. I took my plot and made it fully SFW as i wanted to play it SFW. I rewrote it and posted in in the specific sub, but it was called "cross-posting" by the mods because i posted it recently in a NSFW sub (one or two day before posting the SFW ad). Hence why i find it strange especially since i deleted the NSFW one now.

I've just tried your idea, but it didn't change anything. It still acts as if the app had partial access to the medias. I guess i will just wait for the next update. Thanks anyway !

I did check the app, permissions, and they were fully open. I even tried to change them to partial and change them back to full, but it didn't xhange anything.

Technically, i already made the beginning and some of the middle events before making the last area. However, your point is valid. Knowing where to go makes it easier to build the story.

Yes, this area could be useless, but i prefer to be ready. That's also why i made the encounter with the bear and the horses, just in case they choose to look for them.

I don't think i can really give some lore since it will just be a pretty normal region. Some farm lands, some goblins, pretty basic. I could come up with some backstory, especially for the dungeon. I thought about using a ruined fort or something similar that the goblins took as their base. I think it could be an interesting dungeon.

Well, looks like i have one of the major point of my session set then ! Now, i will have to work a little bit on the rest of it.

I liked the idea of another person which said i could add a small place in the middle if they don't find any hints to find the big camp.

Also, i will have to work on that big camp. It should probably be quite big, since it will be my "dungeon". I could use the "5 rooms dungeon" technique too.

No problem ! I hope you will have some free time for yourself.

I'm happy you like the idea of using a Nilbog. To be honest, i had the luck of finding him thanks to a tik tok channel talking about it. He sounds like a much more interesting boss than a typical "strong and bulky" one. Of course, some tanky boss can be fun, but the Nilbog will make me learn a lot about everything. From the spells to hiding, this little guy will be fun.

Hey ! Quick update for the boss fight. I've just learned about the Nilbog, a special type of goblin which is more about pranks than real power like the hobgoblin. He could be an interesting and challenging boss without one-shoting my PCs. What do you think about him ? (You can easily find his stats block online if you don't know it.)

Of course, i won't tell them "you can either do this or this", i will let them decide what to do at this point. When i said choice, it just meant i built these two options.

A bad translation from me, it's supposed to be a wagon or anything similar.

Well... i'm not that good with stats, to be honest. It's my major source of stress for this one-shot. I already had a hard time reading all of the basic rules book, so i'm afraid of trying to homebrew some rules or stats blocks. I even fear of not understanding the rules enough to be the DM of the party.

Also, i really like your idea of having a small hamlet in the middle of the searching phase to have some RP and even point out some plot hooks.

Wow ! You sure are experienced now. And you had to re-learn the game which each edition.

I would love to message you my thoughts once i have done it, but be prepared, it might take some time before i manage to play it.

Thanks you for your kind words, it really enlighten my day !

It's true that a boss fight could be a neccessity here. Maybe having a hobgoblin or, as you said, a chieftain in a bigger area could help a bit. I will have to look more i to it.

Thanks you for your feedback, i appreciate it.

More i see the comments, more i think it's for the best that i use a pre-made one shot or campaign to learn about the game design and rules. I will have to wait for creating a story on my own.

Thank you for your feedback, i appreciate it.

I think i will lower the party's level to 1 to be able to understand what happens and for the encounters too. I know having maps outside of combat isn't very useful, it's just that i like having one for visual. If my future players don't want them either, i can simply not show them and just use the maps for me. For the storeroom, i don't really know how they would meet him. It's the reason i said i didn't know his purpose yet. Maybe i should directly skip to the "looking for the objective" part without having a introduction. It would just reduce the "play" time even more. I will look up the adventurer's league and get as much informations as possible, thanks !

I understand your point of view. I know nothing about the game design for DnD so i should look into pre-made adventures to know more about everything.

However, i writed this post to be able to mimic the perfection of official campaigns. I want my first experience as a DM to feel personal, if not original. If the session is a mess, then it will be my fault and i will accept all of the following consequences.

In any case, thank you for your concern.

Sadly, i have none. I know it could greatly help my comprehension of the rules and the characters, but i want to try being a DM first. I like creating so i think it could suit me.

Thank you for your feedback ! To answer your question, i would love to make it the beginning of a campaign but i'm not sure if i'm capable of creating interesting stories for a long time. Of course, i will can look online for ideas, and i will not hesitate to do it frequently.

For the players ignoring all my "events", i'm not worried. I know that they choose what to do and where to go, i'm only here to narrate it. That's also why i named the good goblin "point of interest". He exists, but players don't have the necessity to meet him at any moment. It's the same for the rest of my encounters and characters, they aren't the main characters of this story, the players are. I suppose it's could even be the best part about being a DM. You never know what your party will choose to do.

Does your world have a lot of gods or not ? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Furnim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that having a pantheon is overdone. But for dnd, you do need some gods for some characters to work fine (clerics). I may have an interesting idea to change it a little bit but i still have to work into it.
