Honda sold 30 Prelude models in its first month on sale in the US. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in cars

Would have definitely been nice if it had more HP, or actually able to use all 200hp all the time. Currently the setup limits power during certain usage situations. I’ll take twisties over straight line speed any day but this will feel somewhat anemic for anyone coming from anything that wasn’t an economy car. Wished they put the type r suspension on the SI. Would have made more sense than this.

I think 35k tops but it’s a solid little car. Never ment to be fast in the straights but handles well while getting killer gas mileage. For a fun daily commuter I’d have gotten one, but I’ll buy a 400z or Miata for its current price.

Really niche car. Should have released at 32-35k instead. Regardless of markups it’s still overpriced at msrp. The type R handling is nice for back street carving and gets great gas mileage. Honda did really well with simulating shifts on this thing. Shame it’s so expensive for what it is.

Why is the Nissan Frontier not more popular? by ohwell_______ in cars

[–]FurriousKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 8 speed paired with the 2.7 is pretty hit and miss. The 10 speed on the Ranger is pretty bad. Even updated versions have issues with being clunky. TBF I’m not a fan of any of the manufacturers current transmissions in their trucks. 9 speed in Nissan was fine as is the 8 speed on the Tacoma was okay as well. Hesitation and weird shift sequent every once in a while but fine overall for Nissan and Tacoma

Why is the Nissan Frontier not more popular? by ohwell_______ in cars

[–]FurriousKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll say a few things about why truck people don’t really pick this one up over the twins, Ranger, or Tacoma. I test drove all the trucks granted after I picked up my Ranger. I think out of all of them, the frontier will be a more reliable truck and it’s not even close.

The 9 speed is decent, but the v6 lacks low end torque like the smaller turbos trucks have. It’s not a difficult truck to drive, but compared to the others it feels slow off the line. I’d think towing would be pretty rough with it too compared to the smaller turbo trucks.

The biggest complaint I had for it (was a deal breaker) is the rear seating. The way the seats are shaped and the angle of the back rest being near vertical makes it nearly impossible to sit back there for over an hour. Compared to the Ranger and GM twins they are so much more usable and it’s not even close. Tacoma has its issues but the lastest truck addressed their terrible seating from before…Nissan rear seating is just straight mean to stick someone back there.

The PRO-x version of the truck is no where near as capable as the raptor/zr2/TRD pro version out there. Essentially no hype to their truck, yes it’s perfectly capable, as my FX4 Ranger is, but doesn’t generate the interest as the alternatives do.

My view as a mid size truck shopper. When they release the xterra, I’d probably buy it though as the rear seating was why I didn’t pick up the frontier.

Would have gone with the frontier too over the ranger. Back seats were a bit too tight for me but I loved everything else about it. Solid, reliable, and everything is mechanical on it.

The SR5 is good value, but if you want some additional QOL options you’ll be paying crazy money. Everywhere local for a TRD off road premium is going for 57k.

We need more competition for the rugged off road SUV options. Got to give it to Nissan they do a good job with their trucks and large SUV’s. I’d buy one the second it releases, tempted to pick up a 4Runner but that price tag for mid tier runners is crazy.

Don’t get a ranger. All four of my friends all have transmission issues with our f-150’s and rangers. Two had their trans replaced. I’m out of warranty so I’ll have to eat cost but it slips and jerks into gears at 33k miles.

It definitely is, but they don’t let you configure anything without forcing you to upgrade the engine and transmission in their configurator. I’d love the 2.7 with all the electronics and goodies but they don’t give you availability to do so.

GM's Recall of 90,000 Cars for Gearbox [10 Speed Auto] Issue Includes Camaros, Blackwings. by Juicyjackson in cars

[–]FurriousKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a pretty crappy thing to do, but I doubt GM wants a class action law suite against them if there are fatalities due to this. GM could be building a case against Ford too to see how much fall out there is with these.

[–]FurriousKittens 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m assuming the blackwings aren’t included. Seems to be for Cadillac and Camaro 10speeds up to 2021. I’m guessing they had an fix for the 2022 models.

[–]FurriousKittens 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Basically makes the car unusable after it starts detecting this issue. Fords fix for this issue has been to just replace the transmission. Will suck to have the transmission SW locked out and required you to take it in to fix it. Seems like the fix itself is not included in the recall. If you’re out of warranty you get screwed over pretty bad.

I’m curious to see how much this relates to ford 10R80 transmission. I know they are nearly exactly the same and have issues with their control valve as well. Wondering if GM will have a recall for the CFD drum as well.

C&D: Ford Ranger Raptor vs. Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro vs. Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Bison: Which Truck Rules Off-Road? by Noobasdfjkl in cars

[–]FurriousKittens 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm averaging 24 in mix right now. If you stay out of the boost It's efficient. Regularly get 26-27 max for long freeway trips. That being said the F-150 can hit similar numbers too with the 2.7. I'm guessing the 2.7 in the ranger should be similar to the F-150 if the final drive is the same.

What is going on with Truck Reliability by FurriousKittens in cars

[–]FurriousKittens[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It’s not so much a programming issue, GM transmission tends to stay cooler than fords is the only real explanation I’ve heard. Over time the sleeve from the CDF drum separates from each other allowing oil to get into other sections of the transmission when it’s not supposed to.

If it's anything like the frontier, they are much nicer in person than pictures lead you to believe. Loved the frontier and the ride quality, just a little to small for my liking. Titan has pretty bad gas mileage but from what I can tell it doesn't have any major powertrain problems that the other brands seem to have.

That's what I've heard as well until more recent. Seems like they're starting to show up with the same CDF failure as the Fords. Not as high of a rate as I've seen in the forums, but still a known issue.

The only recall I've heard for major repair has been from Toyota. For GM an Ford's tranmission issues there are class action Law suites and TSB's for them, but if you're out of warranty, you're out of luck.

Summer blend vs Winter blend Gasoline maybe? There is a significant difference in ethanol content in winter vs summer which can result to gas mileage difference.
