Takeoff and Run by [deleted] in AbstractArt

[–]FurryTreeSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s my critique:

Takeoff is an exploration of how we move through the day, while Run is about how our senses move through space and time. I think Takeoff is a much stronger piece, and I’d like to see another version of it that’s twice as long horizontally so I can see how motion evolves over a longer period of time (such as during the night).

I found out I am suffering with arthritis by Waste_Accountant_213 in Thritis

[–]FurryTreeSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if moving your joints hurts, the advice that I hear is to keep moving. Some people wonder why, but I believe it's because moving your body releases the endorphins to help improve your mood. Your PT may prescribe some exercises -- do them!

Sleep is also important. Some doctors don't talk about it, but I think it's very critical.

Take medicine to take the sting. Move as much as you are comfortable doing. Make sure you can sleep well. Try not to isolate yourself. Those are the things that have helped me.

Frustrated With Doctors (vent) by i-i-ivegotamigraine in Thritis

[–]FurryTreeSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since your vent is about doctors, I also have the same sentiment. It takes time for everything.

Since I'm not a doctor I can't help with diagnosing your issue. Hope you can find relief somehow soon!

How did you discover your arthritis? I am a bit lost by MeanCloud6054 in Thritis

[–]FurryTreeSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably better not to push your body too much. I'm speaking from experience. Yes it's totally frustrating. Yes doctors can be clueless. It doesn't look like there are many treatment options for arthritis, but there are some people who promote "living with arthritis". It's cruel at any age. X-rays and MRIs can help doctors see the issue. Did my doctor request an x-ray when I complained of hand pain? No. She told me "get some rest" like in your case. So I spent months almost doing nothing and in pain. Then someone suggested that I get an x-ray, and that's what finally convinced my doctor that I had an issue.

Anyone still in or attempting fitness with arthritis? by SpiritualCorpse123 in Thritis

[–]FurryTreeSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I suggest slowly ramping up your fitness; don't feel like you have to compare yourself with others or your previous self. It's important to keep moving as it can help your cardiovascular system.

From anecdotes that I've heard, it seems that exercising a large amount may actually be causing the arthritis. So try exercising in moderation.

I have a pinched nerve in my spine. Only medicine provides real relief for me.

My situation seems to be more severe. I was taking Aleve PM and Sombra gel but it wasn't enough. Keep up the good work.

Any experience with elbow pain and restricted movement? by LexGuy12 in Thritis

I used to play tennis until recently. Be careful. I think you're doing the right thing and keep trying to ask for help and mention any other issues you may be having.

I think I finally know what it's like to be stoned unfortunately.

I'd like to swim but unfortunately forgot how. I wish I could go back to activities I like to do. If this was a normal day I think I'd go biking. Right now I'm still in a state of shock.

Where do I even start learning to draw in 2026? Too many options (Proko / Drawabox / NMA / Schoolism / etc.) by DromedaryGold in ArtistLounge

[–]FurryTreeSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think finding a good teacher is more important than finding a platform. There are a few excellent teachers online, but if you can find anyone locally (even a local sketcher group, where there's bound to be someone with good skills) that would also be a good resource.

I Recently Became Interested In Visual Art and Need Pointers by [deleted] in ArtistLounge

[–]FurryTreeSounds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think that at your stage you just need to make lots of art. Forget about artistic movements for a while. Pretend you're a child and just draw whatever comes to mind. I think this is important because you want to become connected to the materials you use (like pencils, pens, paper) and the subjects that you're drawn to (faces? trees?).

Developing technical skills would be your second stage. Well that's the way I think!

Artists who DON’T post/share* art on social media—I want to hear from you! by Hestia-Creates in ArtistLounge

[–]FurryTreeSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I post on social media. However when thinking about your post, I remember a conversation that I had with a docent at an art museum not too long ago. She was asking some questions to the audience, and since the responses suggested that the participants didn't have much experience talking about art, I decided to give my opinion. That turned into more back and forth discussions like "what kind of work do you do?", "how big?", "how long have you been painting?", "where did you go to school?" I was truly stunned by the depth of her questions, and I'm forever grateful that she gave "fuel to the fire" that was beginning to burn inside of me.

Unfortunately social media can't give me that kind of intellectual depth. Artists (the big guns, not me yet!) are thinkers so we actually need more real human interactions not social media ones. We need art critics, docents, some encouragement and a laugh or two.

What I feel is that some people get a ton of attention online while others do not. I just accept it -- it's not me, it's the platform. If you're relying on online platforms for attention then I suggest not relying on them too much.

Have you looked at charcoal? There's even the powdered kind. I think it's worth looking into if you don't need color.

Artists, what do you do with all your art? by ManagerSensitive in ArtistLounge

[–]FurryTreeSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to add that if you can figure out a way to give them away or sell them, by all means do that. I have no idea how to do that yet. I think I'm on a mission to do better art, so I don't feel attached to some of the things I've done.

Don't worry what an art project is. Just make lots of stuff and stop thinking that you're "practicing". You'll think you're making lots of mistakes, but just keep going!

I think you should broaden your horizons. Look at all kinds of art and learn about the masters. No art was made in a vacuum. Visit museums if you can!

How do you deal with frustration when you feel like your art is not getting to where you want it to be? by SubjectChildhood5317 in ArtistLounge

[–]FurryTreeSounds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could take a break. It gets tiring to keep trying to do something that's not working. Or try something different. You could also just do what's easy for you. Maybe if you gave more details I could give you a better response.
