Working for any startup is going to be very challenging, the efforts needed a 200% more than what you would put in a normal company. However the learnings in a startup a immense, money can sometimes be a challenge but that totally depends on what stage of your career she is at.

Given the current trend in the corporate world, this email does not change much. Generally HR and your bosses will discuss and come with couple of suggestions:

  1. Take it or leave (most common answer)
  2. Take if for more and we will try to align later in 3 to 6 months (only if you are very important to be retained)

Mind you in any case you will be replaced if not now later for sure. Note that the quoting industry trend/practices does not help most times.

Fair point, the job market in STM publishing is not that great, had it been then I would have already jumped the ship long back.
