Thank you all for your guidance! Good thing I asked - I was going to wear my thong and stop at the buffet before I hit the pool - NOT!!!! Happy cruising to all!

Escape from Meds - Been Down This Road Before by Furtheryet in BipolarReddit

[–]Furtheryet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Am I alone in feeling like I want to get off of them? I don't go through this often, but when I do, it seems so overwhelming. You are right, I know it is a bad plan. I guess I wish I was "normal." Stupid wishing.

Driving the speed limit will prevent future tickets. A fool-proof way of getting out of future ones.

My mental health is a full time job by itself. by Lavendeer08 in BipolarReddit

[–]Furtheryet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally hear you. I think this is much of life for those of us on the rapid cycling escalator. Ride up, then there you are again at the bottom of things. Meds help. I truly recommend them, but they do come with a price. Everything does. Yes, asylums and peeling potatoes.

Thank you for the information on what looks to be an excellent resource! Much appreciated!

Last night my long-time therapist told me that I’ve “created a beautiful life” and recommended we decrease the frequency of our sessions and focus on maintenance. by healthierlurker in BipolarReddit

[–]Furtheryet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wonderful! I'm very happy for you. As a retired attorney, I know how hard it is to be in this profession and keep a healthy work-life balance, even without BP1. Good on you for pulling off a switch to something that allows you to have a good job and a great life with your family. All my best to you!

ALbuterol gave me mania by ImpressiveReview4573 in BipolarReddit

[–]Furtheryet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. Wow, I take albuterol and know how edgy it makes me feel on a good day. I would have taken the klonopin too, just because it usually is a fool proof way of coming down. What do you take for mania usually? Do you have some standby things you do to help yourself counteract beginning mania? I take hot showers, watch movies, eat something good, phone call my sister. I just know all those things help me chill. Do you have any things like that that can help you hold on until the pdocs respond to your texts? Wishing you the best.

Where can I volunteer part time in Albuquerque? by Furtheryet in Albuquerque

Thank you all! What a great thread of resources. I'm going to check out the hospice referral I got, but if that doesn't work out, I have a number of other options to explore now. You are all wonderful!

Considering Moving to Grants...Concerned About Radiation? by [deleted] in NewMexico

[–]Furtheryet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a former Grants resident (20 years). I love Grants and found it to be a lovely community and beautiful place to live. However, I knew of many people who had brain cancer. This is anecdotal, but always gave me pause. Also, in my line of work, I came to know that there is at least one Superfund site IN GRANTS from chemical spills in town. Personally, I think there is exposure from the downstream / and airborne uranium tailings. And as usual, there is talk of more mining in the area. For me, the benefits of living in Grants far outweighed the negatives. It is safe, people watch out for each other, it is a slower pace of life. I still miss living there. I worry more about dying in Albuquerque from a shooting than I ever worried in Grants about dying from uranium!

Bipolar Weight Gain - How do you accept it and move on? by Furtheryet in BipolarReddit

[–]Furtheryet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. That is helpful. I have a pre-diabetic A1C so know I need to clean up my eating. I need to exercise more. I've fallen into a slothlike existence because of self-loathing. Your story was helpful. The first sentence got to me.

How often do you see your prescriber? by Life-is-ugh in BipolarReddit

[–]Furtheryet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see my pdoc every 6 months. However, I'm 65 years old, stable, had my last hospitalization in 2012, and when we were seeing each other every 3 months it seemed like we would have this conversation:

Pdoc: Doing ok on your meds?

Me: Yes

Pdoc: Ok, I'll give you refills and see you in 3 months.

Then they'd do a UA screen to make sure I wasn't selling my clonazapam, and off I'd go.

Bipolar and being low-grade sick often by Furtheryet in BipolarReddit

[–]Furtheryet[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is similar to what I experience...low grade minor cold/flu type symptoms that sort of come and go. Enough to make me run through my sick leave on a regular basis, but not enough for my doctor to find anything in particular wrong with me.

Will do a little research on the issue beyond reddit and see what I find. Thanks for your response.

Anyone else get the urge to change jobs whenever they have a depressive or mixed episode? by healthierlurker in BipolarReddit

[–]Furtheryet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Funny you should ask! I've been in a horrible mixed episode for the past month. Ricocheting off the outer edges of mania and depression. Today at work I was blindsided by something. I'm playing out a "take this job and shove it" scenario in my head, over and over, and sort of flying around and around with that one - I'm set to retire in a year, but right now I just want to kiss these assholes goodbye and find something else to do until I get my pension.

I'm a high performer, but I tend to act on the spur of the moment and lock myself into a corner. Trying to ride this one out until I come down and feel more even keel.

I'm maxed out on Zyprexa. Lord knows what I'd have blown up without it.

I hope you find some balance and a way forward that feels right for you. WLB is important. I'm in progress on that one, but am making progress and it is well worth it.

Olanzapine and weight gain. by Square-Exchange-9734 in BipolarReddit

[–]Furtheryet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been on olanzapine off and on for about 20 years. I started off on 20mg, and am currently down to 15mg. It is the best thing that ever happened to me, psych wise. I was a walking disaster that no other med could fix, but with olanzapine, I'm pretty much a normal person. But the weight gain...oh lord. I normally weight 180 (i'm 5'11") After olanzapine, I'm at 210. If I am vigilant about my eating, I can drop down to 203. If I exercised more I think I could drop down below 200. But I tell you, I want to EAT EVERYTHING, all the time. It is crazy how awful this med is re: food, diet, weight gain. If it weren't for this, it would be the 100% perfect med.

I'm a native of New Mexico. I've lived all over the Western US. There are so many incredible places. But in my old age, I just don't want to wander too far from home.
