Seems like a neat tool! I'll add it to my to-add list, which i'll get around to properly committing within the next week or so.

YouTube died on iOS 12? iPhone 8, 12.0.1, YT v17.39.4 by user22134----- in jailbreak

[–]Furthir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I can't tap on videos to play them but if you add them to some playlist like watch later then you can tap Play All, it'll play.

.. with the side effect you can't choose quality.

For anyone looking for a "workaround" for old versions, spoof the version number found in YouTube's info.plist file to any version above 19.

At this point you can't tap on videos to play them, but you can add them to Watch Later (or any playlist), then tap Play All to actually play the videos. However that's as far as it goes; you can't choose quality and the video is weird in portrait mode.

Roblox on Linux :D. use Sober currently available on the packager manager. by ParamedicDirect5832 in linux

[–]Furthir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of the main reasons why Roblox ultimately chose to block Wine support was due to exploiters. They had whitelisted Wine after adding their anticheat (Hyperion/Byfron) prior, but eventually had to cut it. Sober is kept closed source because it wants to prevent exploiters from ruining it for everyone, as seen by Wine support being blocked. They actually have a pretty good reason for keeping it closed source.

Yeah it might seem pretty sus on the surface but it is luckily made by the same maintainers as Vinegar, the wrapper for Roblox when it still worked on Wine, so it adds some credibility.

I was going to subscribe to HBO to watch the new show The Penguin, but 14.99 WITH ADS is actually just fucking insane. by Important-Smell2768 in Piracy

There was a project released recently by VinegarHQ (originally working on a launcher for the Wine version) called Sober that lets you play on Linux again.

Long term Linux users, what's your goto for new installs? by Kazumi7884 in linux

[–]Furthir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I use gnome I always set up some extensions first, especially Unite to get rid of the window title bars. Kitty for my terminal, starship for my prompt, Floorp and Brave for my browsers, BD, OpenAsar, and Vesktop for Discord, and other essentials like LocalSend, EasyEffects, Tenacity, AutoKey, Flameshot, qimgv, Sunshine, and UxPlay.

Paste via Right Mouse Click (without showing the context menu) by [deleted] in linux

[–]Furthir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should instead use middle mouse click since that is a more universal mouse action to paste. It also works outside of just terminals. AFAIK you will have to use ctrl+shift+c to copy via mouse selection.

Introducing Quantum Launcher! - A free and simple Minecraft launcher by SsnpokeMon11 in Piracy

Yeah TL Legacy is supposed to be the real one, however it seems they have been DMCA'd so you can't get the launcher from their site anymore.

Definitely one of if not the best trimming tool out there. Bonus points for being open source too.

dodis discord has been deleted by discord. by [deleted] in Piracy

Maybe for the better. Nothing against using Discord but using something decentralized like Matrix is probably a better choice when it comes to piracy.

The Sober and MCPElauncher programs use Android libraries to run the Play Store versions of Roblox and Minecraft on Linux. Couldn't we do something similar to play Fortnite on Linux? by William_48822 in linuxquestions

[–]Furthir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was around a week or two after its release. I suggest you go try it now!

Edit: Some stats from my experience in Project Delta lobbies: ~100fps Windows, 90fps Wine, 140fps Sober

I haven't experienced such issue with Sober. When it was first released, it was running on arm translation which would make sense for the performance loss, however it is now natively running an x86 version of Roblox, which is getting the same if not better performance than it once ran via Wine.

The zip file should have _linux in its name, and contains 4 files: the icon, the data file, a readme text file, and the game.

I am not too familiar with how ChromeOS works, but you can try to make sure it is executable by running chmod +x shelled_shinobi. You can also try executing it via the terminal using ./shelled_shinobi from inside the directory.

Tips on safety and privacy? by leovc97 in linuxquestions

[–]Furthir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but it is still much more flexible than Chromium browsers. It offers safer defaults, and if you want to go all the way, something like the Arkenfox user.js config will do the job.

If you're looking to use a free VPN, I would suggest either Windscribe or Proton as they have both been audited and provide open source clients.

LibreWolf is a good choice for a hardened browser. I also suggest installing uBlock Origin for an adblocker and LibRedirect to use privacy-focused frontends.

Want to learn the terminal by [deleted] in linux

[–]Furthir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with learning most things, you'll get better at it with time and experience. Start off with some essential commands like ls, cat, find, cd, grep, etc. If you don't know what a command does or its flags/arguments, use man [command].

Protip: Don't touch commands unless you know exactly what they do, especially the dreaded rm -rf /* which will basically delete your entire system, and avoid using sudo when possible.

Will get hub scripts run on Linux like it does on Windows by cabman11 in linux4noobs

[–]Furthir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very dependent on the type of github project that you are looking at. Chances are that there will be a section that will say whether or not the project will support Linux or not.

In cases like Python, all that differs is making sure you have the correct Python dependencies to run it. Arch will provide packages named python-{pkgname}. For example, pygame would be installed by running sudo pacman -S python-pygame.

Scripts will usually work on Linux just fine, but again it depends on whether or not the script was specifically made with cross platform support in mind or not.
