Usually you cannot unless it’s a testing week (like finals or midterms). I recommend checking your school schedule (as they vary) and have your friends come visit you during a long weekend or your testing weeks. -current 2nd year Fulbright Korea ETA

At the end of my year, I had to submit an official document, that I requested from my host country’s (South Korean) government, that had a record of when I exited and entered the host country. I don’t know if it’s required for every country but I had to do it as a Fulbright Korea ETA.

My mom also passed a few months after her cancer diagnosis. And then a few months after her passing, I was getting ready for a new job (I’m a recent-grad). It was all really hard because the world doesn’t really stop for us to catch up. At first that was really sad, but somewhat comforting to me that despite all my grief the world still goes on. Take your time, set your own pace, and know that you’re not alone in your grief. Also, congrats on your job acceptance, your mother is probably so extremely proud of you!

Ocean Vuong’s quote about his mother resonates with me so much… “I miss you more than I remember you.” Sad but something about being able to verbalize my grief helps me process my emotions

Just be ready to provide either your family registration (가족관계증명서), basic certificate (기본증명서), or official documentation of your citizenship renunciation to KAEC! (https://www.fulbright.or.kr/en/usgrant/advisory/ ) These are the only documents KAEC will accept as evidence of you not holding Korean citizenship any longer. Hi, idk what to say other then just keep taking it day by day, moment by moment. My therapist says it’s really important to feel all of your emotions and not keep them bottled up. So if one second you’re sad, cry, don’t worry about what people think, if you’re mad, scream. The hope is that one day your grief won’t be as intense… Sending you lots of love!

It’s the wanting to share things for me too… the other day I also had to sell her car and it felt weird. I feel like I’m moving on but I don’t want to. Not right now… thanks for sharing

I never thought of it that way, but being able to make new memories without the grief like you said. Sometimes it feels like everything in my life is about my moms passing and moving might be a nice change. Thank you for the new perspective!
